07.03.2026 01:14 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A post by that dickhead Robert Peston reads The final report of the Water Commission includes this calculation: "We estimate that over £85 billion has been extracted from the English water system by shareholders and affiliated parties since privatisation." Given the parlous, creaking, under-invested condition of Britain's water industry, this was egregious pillaging by shareholders that was licensed by successive governments and the regulator. As the report says, company executives and boards, regulators, ministers, all were to blame. It summarises: "this £85 billion represents a direct transfer of value from the public to private owners — a sum extracted while storm overflows proliferated, leakage targets were missed, and river health declined.".
From what I’ve been told by several human briefcases, it’s not economically viable to nationalise the water industry

Real Life Stories
It Happened To Me: I ordered a takeaway on my way home and when I got there, there were leftovers still out and it turns out I made something absolutely delicious last night that I definitely could have just eaten tonight instead of paying for a takeaway
I went there to meet someone for a date and I really loved the city!
07.03.2026 00:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Montreal is on of my favourite places I’ve been cuz ur was genuinely bilingual. When you walk into a shop, they’d greet you with “”bonjourhi” (one word) and then you’d reply in the language you wan to speak in. I want that for us. Irish is such a beautiful language! And it’s just been stolen from us
06.03.2026 23:46 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0My French is pretty dormant but it was strong enough that if you dropped me in a French speaking country I think I’d be relatively ok within in a week. I think a German speaking country would take me maybe a month or two. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d adjust so easily in a Gaeltacht

When I first moved to London, my three housemates were all primary school teachers who trained in Ireland so we spoke Irish a fair bit on public transport at home but I mostly just listened cuz I did pass Irish
I really have very few regrets in my life but not improving my Irish is definitely one

06.03.2026 23:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0My grandmum (who only died over the summer) was fluent but refused to speak it! God I wish I had it. Feels especially absent since it’s probably my fourth language now behind German and French. I can have convos in both of those to a level I just couldn’t as gaeilge. It’s sad
06.03.2026 23:26 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0My grandmother was fluent as gaeilge but refused to speak it because I guess she thought it was low class? But she would listen to the radio and watch the news in Irish. It’s such a weird place to be. I’m could very easily be fluent but I’m not because of class obsession
06.03.2026 23:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I ended up going to a truly awful private school because my parents valued to appearance of education over actual education. I’m already trying to learn Irish to a strong enough level that my kids would get accepted to a gaelscoil so they will hopefully be trilingual (with German)
06.03.2026 23:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It’s weird that it’s seen as a kind of extremism position here to say I’m sad that I’m not fluent in Irish. My parents had the chance to send me to a gaelscoil but didnt cuz my didn’t want me to speak a language he didn’t speak, which I both get and will never forgive him for

BBC Verify has pieced together verified videos, satellite imagery and expert views after a deadly attack near a primary school in Minab, souther Iran, which suggest the area was hit more than once "by multiple simultaneous or near-simultaneous strikes".
