When you walk into a shop, they’d greet you with “”bonjourhi” (one word) and then you’d reply in the language you wan to speak in. I want that for us. Irish is such a beautiful language! And it’s just been stolen from us

My French is pretty dormant but it was strong enough that if you dropped me in a French speaking country I think I’d be relatively ok within in a week. I think a German speaking country would take me maybe a month or two. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d adjust so easily in a Gaeltacht

My grandmum (who only died over the summer) was fluent but refused to speak it! God I wish I had it. Feels especially absent since it’s probably my fourth language now behind German and French. I can have convos in both of those to a level I just couldn’t as gaeilge. It’s sad

I ended up going to a truly awful private school because my parents valued to appearance of education over actual education. I’m already trying to learn Irish to a strong enough level that my kids would get accepted to a gaelscoil so they will hopefully be trilingual (with German)
