E33 technically did but their publisher is a bunch of indie studios working together.

I use indie to mean independent studio, not owned by a publisher.

But others refer to budget, this is why the conversation isn’t clear anymore

I’m with you - I totally get your point. I think the industry needs to come up with new verbiage since no one can agree on what “indie” means these days (budget vs independent).

So by the actual definition BG3/E33 is (Kepler is a collective of indie studios)

The quality of games across the board in 2025 has been exceptional
