They are also central to the running of multiple international clinical trials in amyloidosis and heart failure in which the Mater are involved in order to improve access to newer treatments for patients.

They are also integral to the post-transplant care of over 200 patients in Ireland who are living with a heart transplant as well as those living with a left ventricular assist device heart pump.

Thanks to our 100 Miles participants and supporters, we were able to fund an important position in 2024 at the Mater Hospital.
The advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant fellow position is a one-year sub-speciality training post for a senior cardiology trainee in the Mater Hospital.
Thank you again to everyone who took part, you are making a true difference to patients undergoing lung transplants and helping to support their families as well!

A wonderful €2,555 will be going to the Helping Hand Fund initiative. The funds raised will support lung transplant patients and their families with support through the challenges of undergoing a transplant.

Some patients with advanced heart failure may not be suitable for a heart transplant or a heart pump called a left ventricular assist device (LVAD).
They may instead need special care to manage their symptoms at home.

Thanks to the incredible care she received during her cancer journey, Anne is hosting a St Valentine's Charity Gala in the Slieve Russell hotel in Cavan on Valentine's Day.
“Dr Fortune and one of the specialist nurses told me I had non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Specifically, Burkitt lymphoma... That day, it was an awful lot to take in. In the space of two weeks, I went from not a care in the world to being spun into that.
Anne shares her cancer journey, “In March of 2023 I discovered a lump in my breast. I went to my GP, who in turn sent me straight to the Breast Clinic in the Mater Hospital."

“The care I got from the exceptional medical team [in the Mater] was incredible. I felt very safe in their hands. I had never been in hospital, apart from when any of my children were born, I was never sick. I was blown away by it all."
