To me the bottom line is I don’t think any manager would be doing considerably better in the same shoes. The squad is in transition, and what’s more, the injuries this season have robbed him of any flexibility he did have to get more out of it. I’m sure we compete again next season if Slot’s backed.

If we were getting this form under Alonso there wouldn’t be a single complaint. A lot of people have just decided they don’t like Slot (which is weird) and are no longer being objective.

If Alonso came in and saw us through our current form, those same people would be delighted.

I’ve said it before but I think a lot of people are just stubbornly doubling down because they’re realising it was a bit embarrassing to go after a title winning manager in what were clearly very difficult circumstances. Nobody can just say “sorry, I was wrong” any more.

Slot tried to play our football at the start of the season but quickly found out we don’t had the squad for it.

Since then he’s been pragmatic in finding different ways to win games to salvage something from the season and people moaned.

Win 5-2 and people still moan. Never happy.

Would be such a boost. Convinced this lad is at the level once his fitness is there.

It’s a shame he’s a blue because we could do worse than getting Ndiaye in the summer if we’re after a few wingers.

Even the practical reality of the pre season being disrupted and leaving the squad unfit. People just don’t have the patience to accept any tough periods these days. Think it stems from being such unbearable gob shites when it’s going well. The stick comes back their way and they need to deflect.

I’m convinced there are fans that are a bit gutted when we win now. I’d even go as far as to say they’d take 6th over 5th and a cup because they’d hate nothing more than have to accept they might have been wrong and acted a bit childishly. There are clear mitigating circumstances for Slot this year.

If anything Slot deserves massive credit for turning the game around at HT. Can be forgiven for looking toothless and directionless when Wirtz pulled out last minute. I do hope we start to see more of Ngumoha now though. He clearly offers something we’re missing.

Also seems to be a weird outright refusal to accept in any way that was a tricky away game just because they were 17th and played midweek. They may have been to Turkey but they smashed it and went in to their first home game under a new manager flying with a decent squad.

Interesting Liverpool were better in the second half, after Slot was able to talk to them, then we went on to win with Gomez and Rio, two of Slots subs, playing a big part in that impetus. Odd.

Be arsed with the fucking whinging about how we won a difficult away game. Points are all that matter this season.

Rio Ngumoha should be getting more game time from now on. What a performance from him.

We keep doing this thing where at the one moment we commit 4/5 men forward on a move we get that one critical pass or touch wrong at the moment all our players get on the wrong side. It’s fucking head doing.

Yep. Take nothing away from our performance on the night but it certainly felt like they gave us encouragement. Fair to say they were cowardly.

Last season you called them cowards on one of the pods and it came to mind for me when Trossard was time wasting just before the equaliser. They’re going about this title race all the wrong way, starting with their 0-0 v us, and I don’t think they can have any complaints if they don’t win it now.

I would love a pivot of Gravenberch and Szoboszlai to work. They have the physical attributes to do it I just hope Szoboszlai has the discipline.

That’s true but I think of all of them Szoboszlai is the one who’s most likely to be vying with Wirtz for a place. Does he have the discipline to be a regular starter in a deep two? If not can we afford to give mega money to a player who maybe wouldn’t start a CL final?

@knoxharrington.bsky.social Stuart Wright (?) touched on this on Mondays Wrap. I think it’s a bigger issue than people seem to realise at the moment, especially with the contract situation. Wouldn’t be surprised if we sell this summer. There may even be room for a deal involving Tchouameni?

On this, I would actually say the other thing I don’t think Slot did too well this year was the early obsession with inverting Kerkez. I really thought having him and Frimpong high and wide was going to be our solution to breaking down low blocks. Seeing the best of Kerkez now thankfully.

I just don’t think it needs to be that complicated. If we keep Konate and Gomez then we’re fine in defence with just a question over backup LB if Robbo still wants out (questionable once the World Cup isn’t a factor anymore).

Upgrade on Macca, Endo, Salah and Chiesa and I think we’re there.
