The 3 graphs show temperature, salinity, and oxygen from the surface to 300 m versus year from 2018 through 2025 for profiling float 5905383. The map shows the trajectory of the float from deployment in the Weddell Gyre (green square) and a loop around the Weddell sea to the present position at the red square.

What's interesting as the Thanksgiving Holiday arrives? The first @bgc-argo.bsky.social profiling floats begin to emerge from under Antarctic sea ice each year. Float 5905383 is the first @soccomproject.bsky.social float for 2025/26. It has spent 7.9 years operating under ice.

🌊BGC-Argo float of the month is a sensor, not a float. Bif and Johnson (GBC; doi/10.1029/2024GB008473) show that the concentration of nitrite can be extracted from the UV spectra of ISUS or SUNA nitrate sensors.

Last week in Hobart, 56 participants met to discuss leveraging hyperspectral PACE satellite data for the Southern Ocean. Talks ranged from photophysiology to satellites, with @thenasaearth.bsky.social keynote Dr. Julia Uitz highlighting links to BGC-Argo and large-scale biogeochemical processes.

A new paper, led by GO-BGC researcher @koelling.bsky.social, using @bgc-argo.bsky.social data, examines ocean ventilation in the subpolar North Atlantic. These insights enhance our understanding of how oxygen enters the deep ocean and may aid in predicting future oxygen loss due to climate change.
