I'm sorry... I was under the impression that the next sections were already in the planning stages and on their way to construction. They haven't even started?!?

- Blind loyalty to the Orange Man

... and that's it. The only requirement that matters.

Weird how this always only ever goes one way?

Does the FIFA Peace Prize really mean nothing anymore?

I don't understand why the horizontal lines are the same color all the way across. So the letters T and I and L are all harder to read. They could have blacked out the surface where appropriate to make the text really pop. Very odd choices.

The qwerty keyboard layout has remained the standard for 150 years, but I’m increasingly convinced that if modern UI/UX designers could have had their way, we’d be learning a new layout every week, and they’d hide random keys in a nested menu in order to β€œdeclutter” the interface.

Mahan has been tweeting about the rest of the gubernatorial field from his glass house for the last year, and I’ve been unimpressed. Talk is cheap; hiring decisions like this one send a stronger message.

Wasn't there video of Platner referring to the tattoo as a Totenkopf at some point a few years ago? I don't buy him not knowing.

That ham sandwich is starting to tally a pretty impressive record of wins in the District of Columbia. DOJ in shambles.

Ah yes, CAHSRA's Peninsula plans... there are so many questions without firm answers and little apparent interest in addressing them anytime soon. The blended service, the placement of the maintenance facility, the extension to the planned terminus in downtown SF. Meanwhile, the costs keep rising!

Unfortunately nobody learned anything from the movie in the long term. Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 2018 and was basically every single cliche in one film.

People continue to underestimate how incompetent the Trump Admin is capable of being.

Scamming Couple behind 50-story Sunset tower won’t quit despite foreclosure Despite foreclosure and a failed bankruptcy attempt, the Hickeys are filing new redevelopment applications at 2700 Sloat Blvd.

Major narrative violation for nearly everyone who has voiced an opinion on this tower proposal- it was never going to happen!

I’m suddenly reminded of β€œFlashback” by Dan Simmons which I read years ago; it’s about a dystopian future America where everything has been just awful since β€œit hit the fan” (a line the author uses repeatedly) and then at the end he reveals that what he meant was Obama being elected president.

I’m pretty sure there are more recent editions of this which are reasonably priced.

Done right, it can be very impressive. It's just gross to see it slathered all over a space that has long been used to project the sensibility of a republic, and not imperial majesty.

You can even buy genuine gold leaf on Amazon, it's not impossibly expensive. Gold spray paint doesn't have quite the same luster as the real thing.
This is a detail from a photo of the Oval Office- it's possible to see where the sheets of gold leaf were applied (uneven paint edge).

As for Trades- It's hard to judge from photos and video at a distance, but the tile seems to have been installed reasonably well inside and out (bad taste aside). Someone had to come in and apply the gilding. Fabrication of the signage, paintwork, and we know the name of the demolition company.

...the complete lack of understanding of how a Neoclassical/Federal building wants to be vs some kind of Baroque Russian palace... it's painful for me to watch. Taste is not impossible to learn, and here is a man who has not cultivated any real discernment in 79 years.

The White House... there is expensive Calacatta marble involved, the gilding is real... and that's about where the quality ends. The Home Depot epoxy resin appliques everywhere, the bizarre signage...

The Waldorf work cost $2b over 8 years and likely involved every trade conceivable. Plus the added dimension of documenting and restoring numerous original Art Deco components of the building and adapting them where necessary.

So would this be a more cost-effective setup (assuming the bathrooms in a multi-family building are properly arranged) than the current US standard?

We all know what attracts them to Orban, and it’s not his economic track record.

I can think of at least one other home in SF which has undergone $20m+ in renovations over the last few years, but it’s over on Pacific Ave. I’m shocked that anyone would spend that amount on a house in St. Francis Wood.

Same story in just about any Bay Area city you could care to name. Same story across most of the country. It’s genuinely inspiring to see a plan like this, and I wish them the best.
