Working systems are usually fine, and the details that a working system handles correctly are hard to quantify.
The new team will ALWAYS miss small things (or assume they are mistakes).
I hope there are very good backups.
But, this is what software engineers default to. Existing systems are antiquated and must be replaced. The last team was know-nothing and caused <insert problem>. Always.
Show your tech to a consulting firm. That’s what they will say. Always.
There is no responsible software engineer who could document & scope the existing system and its interconnects and APIs in months, much less replace a hardened, tested, proven, functional system in a “new” language.
