Day 27: A song you consider a masterpiece

The B-52s - Rock Lobster

A product of the post-punk era but also an amalgamation of post-war American pop culture: surf rock, rockabilly, some Yoko Ono (Lennon noticed!), it‘s all there, but still fun and original.

Oh, that‘s a good one. Probably my favourite Doors song. That piano bit is just wonderful.

FWIW, in the Star Wars sequel trilogy that exists in MY head, it‘s Jar Jar who ends up saving the universe because a) it kind of actually makes sense from a dramaturgical standpoint (why else introduce him in Ep I), and b) trolling haters is fun.

Hi folks and happy Friday to you all, it’s that time again as we’ll be playing #5debutalbums0509 Select your top 5 debut albums in order of preference that were released between 2005 - 2009. The top 30 albums in the voting will progress to the semi final stage, here’s my picks to kick things off…

The humour in Resident Evil games is often undersold, but there are some genuinely (very darkly) funny moments in Requiem (eg. a cleaner zombie complaining about the blood on the wall), without which the horror would probably be unbearable since parts of it are even more disturbing than RE7.

I also love the way that contrasts with Leon‘s battle-hardened weariness, like "Oh. Right. This again. 🙄"

For posterity (and because I just found it), a thing I wrote almost 20 years ago (!) for the AV Club.

Arrest them.

I doubt Starmer makes it through summer.
