As a wider issue rape culture in the uk starts as early as primary school. We all need to learn & be better allies for survivors. @everyonesinvited.bsky.social is a great place to start.

@everyonesinvited.bsky.social do vital work to educate young people and to empower school communities to foster healthy relationships, sexual well-being and to tackle rape culture.

Young people need and deserve quality relationships and sex education, but in its absence often turn to porn to learn about sex.
With @everyonesinvited.bsky.social showing the scale of sexual abuse in primary schools, prioritising RSHE has never been more urgent.

This BBC headline should say βfined for SEXUAL ASSAULTβ, however they know exactly what theyβre doing hereβ¦
Softening what happened into βkissing playerβ downplays ASSAULT. It invites debate, doubt, and minimisation.
Words matter. Call it what it is.

Jaysley Beckβs tragic death is yet another reminder that rape culture thrives in institutions built on power imbalances. The system failed her. And until holistic preventative education exists and is accessible to all, across society, it will keep failing others. #JaysleyBeck #EndRapeCulture

How do you stay safe online? Comment the advice you'd give below π
Today on #SaferInternetDay we asked our team what they do to stay safe online:
π"I mix up my news sources to avoid getting stuck in an echo chamber."
π "I ask myself, 'where did I get this from?', 'who is this post benefitting?', 'can I back up the evidence myself?'.
Ofcom's 2024 Report which looked into Children and Parent's Media Use and Attitudes, found that 76% of children aged 5-7 use a tablet & 51% of children aged under 13 report using social media sites/apps. We need to make sure everybody feels equipped to navigate the fast evolving digital language.
11.02.2025 15:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the words of the NAO, ""The lack of an effective, cross-government approach and a limited understanding of what works to help reduce these crimes, means the Home Office cannot be confident that government is doing the best it can to keep women and girls safe." www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
31.01.2025 17:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In any situation there will be many factors at play, including gender, class, sexuality, and diasporic context that inform practice. We must consider these and avoid blaming specific cultures as a whole.π
30.01.2025 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We must take an intersectional approach to dissecting sexual violence cases.
Intersectionality is a way to understand how multiple forms of oppression interact to create distinct outcomes.
Scapegoating certain groups distracts people from the real issues, reducing the focus on underfunding and the growth of polarising rhetoric amongst young people. Sexual violence and rape culture exists within every culture, we must not ignore this.
30.01.2025 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If we play into the perception that grooming only happens within certain ethnic groups, we risk obscuring the systemic nature of sexual violence, whilst at the same time fuelling anti-Muslim racism.
30.01.2025 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0According to a study by Dr Ella Cockbain at UCL, there is: no credible evidence for a far-right stereotype that has spread widely in the media. Instead, the facts show that
85% of βgroup-basedβ child abusers were white in the first three quarters of 2024.
Due in part to terminology used by mainstream media, the term βgrooming gangβ immediately connotes to Pakistani-heritage Muslim men abusing white girls, but this is not based in evidence. Home Office researchers have found that group-based offenders are most commonly White.
30.01.2025 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We wanted to share this myth busting fact-sheet about grooming gangs in the UK given some of the misinformation that has recently been spread...
30.01.2025 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βDespite these glaring patterns, misogyny remains unrecognised as form of extremism. Misogyny is not and cannot remain a side note to these acts. It is central to understanding and stopping these tragedies. We must call it what it is: a form of terror.β
