“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”
It costs a lot less to house people.

Some numbers seem to show up everywhere. Think of 10, 12, 24, 36...
Others—like 26 or 34—don’t get the same attention. Why? In our new paper with @standehaene.bsky.social and @mathiassablemeyer.bsky.social, we argue it's because of how the mind builds number concepts.

Do girls and boys really differ in their mathematical skills? A recent @nature.com paper by @standehaene.bsky.social et al shows that French boys and girls enter school with similar abilities, but after just four months, boys pull ahead 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Lovely work — and yet another proof that perceptual integration, likely based on recurrent connections, can occur without awareness during the attentional blink.

I’m interested in how we can better communicate genetic science, when cool soundbites may confuse more than they clarify. An example: “You share 98.8% of your genes with a chimpanzee!” Is this true? What does it really mean? Let’s unpack this oft-quoted pearl of wisdom in a 🧵 all about sharing. 🧪1/n
