Shawn makes the class politics explicit.
Economic status is a reality of people's lives, but it doesn't get organized into politics nearly enough by parties.
We have lots of fake populists making decisions that hurt working people. We need more real economic populists. Anyone? Bueller?

This is especially true for the western half of the GTA. I'd even call Wasaga "Brampton's beach" as it's a straight shot up Airport Road and an easy day trip. However Brampton and the rest of Peel Region is strong Ford country, so I wonder how this news will be received there.
How much can Ford Nation take? Hereβs something to watch: a big portion of the 905 are close to Wasaga, easy day trip. Itβs their summer beach. Will Ford country object to this? So far Ontario eats a lot of π© without objection.

I compare it to the βcraftβ beer section at any Ontario grocery or convenience store or even smaller LCBO and itβs incredible. They also have a fridge with all your typical 12s and 24s. But I could have purchased 15+ local (really local!), small brewery beers easily. At a small-town grocery store!

This is a great place to start.
The American tech platforms are an active threat to Canadian sovereignty and democracy.
I keep seeing people say things like, βWell weβre not going to HAVE elections,β and with all due respect, I think this is both wildly pessimistic and also wildly naive.
We are not going to have free and fair elections. We also have not had them in the past.
Economic inequality is getting worse in Canada.
Wealth inequality is though is larger than reported in official stats, and the wealthy have many ways to avoid taxation.
Growing inequality is precursor of democratic and civic collapse.

Equalization remains a popular program, and a key piece of our social architecture.
It has helped prevent the deep polarization we see in other countries.
It provides people with economic opportunity regardless of where you're born in Canada.

"Trading with the US weakens us."
Powerful line. Sounds true to me.
We will continue to trade with the US, but our strategy must be to replace the US as much as possible.
Diversification can't be a slogan. It is an existential imperative.
