All About Reading Level 1 arrived today!! Any homeschool parents have tips and tricks? I scanned the first lesson and its stuff he already knows but he’s only 4 so I’m going to go through it anyway

How do homeschoolers of more than one child do it? My son is 4 in a few months. He’s starting to be able to read Bob books by himself. Loves math. Actively asks me to learn more stuff. Now I have a baby due before the end of the year and have just zero energy (and zero ability to eat 🥲)

What are some chapter audiobook recommendations for a 3.5 year old? We’ve done the secret garden, Anne of green gables, little house on the prairie and Harry Potter 1-3, boxcar children book 1. (We listen on our way to his extracurriculars .45-.1.5 hours in the car)

A picture from Antiracist baby of a little girl holding binoculars to her eyes. In the image a white person climbed to the top of the ladder and got a trophy. The black persons ladder is broken.

We read antiracist baby today (about 4 times). On this page on the last read through my son got really into the image. He asked a lot of questions about the ladders that I explained as best I could to a 3.5 year old. At the end he said “They should have a ramp. Everyone can use a ramp.”

I know all of us who understand what is happening are experiencing mental health challenges because of that.

The only message of comfort I can offer to this community of readers is this: you are correct.

What you think is happening is really happening, and is just as concerning as you think it is.

She can still take music lessons somewhere or her school might be willing to allow her to come for band. Some places the schools are able to allow homeschooled kids to come for the extras. It wouldn’t hurt to ask

Our first official day of homeschool using a curriculum! All about reading pre-reading. He already knew everything we did today but I expected that. He’s really at a level 1 in the program but since he’s young I want to keep it fun and let him be ‘good’ at school for now!

None of this was hard to teach or explain. I answered his questions in an age appropriate way when he asked.
My sisters approach was “I’ll tell you when you’re older” and her kids don’t know anything about what their own bodies will be doing in the next couple years. It stress me out for them.

teaching him about fostering and preparing him for a foster sibling). He knows the names of his parts and ‘girls’ parts. He knows babies come from an egg from an ovary and grow in a uterus. That a menstrual cycle is once a month and the products used to take care of it. (2/3)

Include puberty too! My niece is in 3rd grade and has no idea what the real name of her body parts are, doesn’t know what a menstrual cycle is, doesn’t know how babies are made.
Meanwhile my 3 year old asked me if there was a baby in my uterus when I asked him if he wanted a sibling (we’re 1/3

We’ve been reading the animal ark series around nap time! My son loves chapter books and I loved these books as a kid so I thought it’d be a great introduction! We’re also starting The secret garden as an audiobook (again) on our drives to his extracurriculars!

How cute! And we love the red pandas - they’re my nieces favorite!

He did the same thing with the word up not long ago and I gave in and ordered the curriculum. Figured if he’s going to teach himself then I better teach it to him correctly from the get go!

My son will make up stories while holding books, but a couple months ago he was in the backseat talking and said the word “at.” Then he stopped and repeatedly it slowly. Then said “A. T. At! At is spelled at!” And continued with his story while his dad and I were just shocked silent! (1/2)

How old is your daughter? Our All About Reading pre-reading curriculum is arriving tomorrow! My son is 3.5 but is fascinated with words and has begun teaching himself to read so I had to start homeschooling a touch sooner than expected haha

I’m close! I consider myself agnostic though j generally just say I’m not a religious person.

I hit most of your bonuses though! (My neurodivergence is only suspected by everyone I know but not doctor confirmed lmao)

This is a thread about book banning. Right now, today, books are being pulled from shelves in libraries and classrooms, some by direct order, some in fear of what's coming. This is *exactly* what Project 2025 said was going to happen. Make no mistake: this is not about books; it's about people. 1/8

A friend of mine recommended the Y after our issue at the local pool. The closest Y is 45 minutes away and the available class times just haven’t worked for us. I’m willing to make the drive for a good teacher! Our classes are a bit pricier here. My son does soccer through the Y!

We actually made progress in learning to swim last summer just the two of us.

We might do more swimming lessons this summer! He loves being in the water with us, but last summer was still too nervous to dunk his head under and a teacher got too pushy and set back his whole comfort level with being in the water. I’m thinking about just teaching him myself since 1/2

We started it because it was basically one of the only things around he could do parent and tot at 18 months! We kept with it because he learns so much about how he can move his body from it! He’s getting so strong thanks to all those bars work outs haha

We’re in southern Illinois so ice skating isn’t a very big thing haha. But it just looks like fun so I thought he might enjoy it!

We thought about ice skating! What age did yours start?

What was the most beneficial extracurricular your kid did/does? My son is 3 and is absolutely blossoming in gymnastics and dance! I plan to expand into horseback lessons and tennis once he turns 4
Since we’re homeschooling and he doesn’t attend preschool/daycare he loves having places to be everyday
