I use both the EM dash and semicolon whenever and wherever I want to. Maybe not a hill worth dying on, but I could imagine getting into brawl defending them. 😅There are countless occasions where a full stop or a comma isn’t a correct fit, and where parentheses would disturb the textual flow.

A congregation of magpies have lived on our property for years. My office window looks out on the backyard, with a view to a moss-covered outcrop of stone. The magpies bury tidbits under the mosses, then a local squirrel sneaks in, finds and steals them. The magpies just don't get it.😅

Years ago, my brothers and I did the ‘Norway in a nutshell‘ trip, taking the train from Oslo over Hardangervidda, stopping at Myrdal stasjon. From there we took Flåmsbana to Flåm and Aurlandsfjord, then boarded a fjord ferry. After a lovely cruise/another train ride, we ended up in Bergen. Magical!
