Before Michaela's safety from Lucifenian forces can be secured, Ney finds and murders her, framing Riliane and Elluka/Gumillia for her death.
Following Michaela's death, her body is reborn as a sprout. Clarith is tasked with protecting the sprout until it can mature and rebirth Michaela as the Millennium Tree, new guardian of Held's Forest.
Riliane's actions cause widespread fury and frustration among the Lucifenian populace. A revolutionary force comprised of peasants and soldiers alike is born, spearheaded by warriors Germaine Avadonia and Kyle Marlon (who fights under the pseudonym "Karchess" to hide his identity).
When revolutionary forces attack the palace in search of Riliane, Allen proposes an idea to save her life: Allen would disquise himself as Riliane and be taken into custody, allowing Riliane to escape. It'll work, he claims, because they're twins and nobody will see a difference.
