Ed is off to a career in biotech, but the good times still roll (rol-6?), as I have a @ukri.org (BBSRC) funded 3-year postdoc to continue his work on cell division in the early embryo. For details see here: www.davieslab.org/join

Myself and colleagues stood on Palace Green, Durham, in our academic regalia - lots of gowns in red, grey, black and yellow. Some of us are wearing velvet hats.
My first PhD student, the fab Ed O'Neill, graduated yesterday! Unfortunately he couldn't make the ceremony, so you'll have to settle for a photo of me and my lovely colleagues from @durham-university.bsky.social instead.

A photo from the riverside path in Durham, showing the River Wear in the foreground, and the castle and cathedral in the distance. A stone arched bridge is crossing the river, and there are trees on the river bank. The river is calm and reflects the bridge and trees. The sky is cloudy and grey.
A view from a farm track towards Durham. Trees and fields are on both sides of the track, and Durham Cathedral is just visible in the distance. The sky is blue with very few clouds.
A view from a wooden footbridge, showing the ruined Finchale Priory in the distance, along with a farmhouse. Some the river is visible - the morning sky is light blue with some faint clouds.
I'll be recruiting a postdoc soon, so thought I should show off how lovely Durham is, with photos from my morning commute which tracks along the River Wear.

I went for TXM as a strain designation. My writing isnβt very neat, so I went for something that looks clear. I use is as a lab code too and it took about a year before a neighbouring lab asked why Iβd misspelled my name on all the glassware.

View of the River Wear as is flows through Durham. The river is calm and the sky is blue. The picture is taken from Old Elvet bridge.
Not a cloud in the skies over Durham as we get ready for the @gensocuk.bsky.social C. elegans meeting later this week!

The pain and hurt that people are going through right now in response to actions taken by the GOP and the current Trump administration will never be forgotten by me.
I will never forgive the meanness.
I will never forgive the cruelty.
I will never forgive those who enabled this moral turpitude.
