At a stroke, 14,000 of the poorest families will see their council tax triple, an increase of £555.

Labour called the cuts necessary. Cllr Lamb poured cold water on this: "sending bailiffs to a household that has nothing more to give is the very definition of a false economy."

What we saw on Monday night was a betrayal of the poorest sections of our communities.

Labour Party councillors colluded with the Tories and Lib Dems to vote through huge cuts to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

This is outrageous. The Labour Party is bang to rights. As voters go to the polls in Manchester, very news organisation in the country should be leading on Labour's dirty tricks.
