Album Review: Florence and The Machine – Everybody Scream Florence Welch is definitely embracing a darker style with new album Everybody Scream. The sound is one she’s dabbled in for a while now but it’s light years away from the Dancefloor pop that started her career. The moody tracks on Everybody Scream tell a story of strength and survival, of being a woman and an artist, and drift into a more folk style at times (

Tour News: The Buoys ‘Bitch’ single tour starts next month Fresh off the back of their European 'NO SLEEP TO REEPERBAHN' Tour, The Buoys will begin their latest Australia Tour next month. The tour, kicking off in Perth on November 28th, celebrates the release of their latest single Bitch. Produced by ARIA Award-winner Chris Collins (Matt Corby) and mastered by George Georgiadis, the new single taps into the moment that inspired the song: being unfairly labelled just for having an opinion.

Album Review: The Clause – Victim Of A Casual Thing Victim Of A Casual Thing is the stunning debut from Birmingham 4-piece alternative rockers The Clause. The amount of people that appear in my inbox telling me that this band they know “sound exactly like early Arctic Monkeys” is actually unbelievable (and pure hubris tbh because I have those early Arctic Monkeys tracks on my phone so I can make a direct comparison).

Take Five – Five Tracks You Should Listen to this week (27th October) Take Five (27th October) Five great tracks you should have a listen to this week. Scroll to the end to listen to them all together on our playlist. Wilsn - The Way Wilsn's track The Way, from her recently released album Bloom makes me feel nostalgic in a way I can't quite pinpoint. Is it 70's soul sensations like Diana Ross or Patti LaBelle, 80's power ballad singers like Bonnie Tyler or 90's R'n'B divas like Mary J Blige or Erikah Badu?

Album Review: Lily Allen – West End Girl As with most people, I was curious to see how Lily Allen’s candid, slice-of-life, songwriting translates to life in our 40s - and frankly I’m not sure it does. Sadly, the album lost me early with the odd phone conversation/spoken word interlude on opening/title track West End Girl. Positioned just as I started getting into the track, it was too long and felt out of place this early.

Album Review: Queenie & Hank Queenie and Hank (Henry Wagons) finally release their long-anticipated self-titled duet album this week. This broody country inspired collection drips with sadness and regret, providing a modern twist on classic country duets. Queenie is one of Melbourne/Naarm’s freshest new voices and marks her first major release since her debut album New Moult. This time she teams up with Hank/Henry Wagons a veteran with a career spanning over 2 decades, 10 albums and who is a pioneer in the Australia indie-country scene.

Review: Kat Greta – Memo Music Hall, St. Kilda Friday night brought Kat Greta to St Kilda’s Memo Music Hall for an evening of Rhythm and Reverie as she launches her new single Shoot Me Lover. There’s just something about Kat that is undeniably endearing. She just gives off that pop star energy. Perfectly navigating the balance between keeping it light and upbeat whilst also sharing moments of genuine vulnerability, she builds a connection with her audience in ways that can’t be taught.

Album Review: Miles Kane – Sunlight in the Shadows Miles Kane released new album Sunlight in the Shadows this week. I absolutely love the energy of this album. It opens strong with singles Love is Cruel and Electric Flower and continues with an impressive sonic consistently throughout the 12 tracks that make up Sunlight in the Shadows. It’s a light funk, guitar effects and synth driven album. And while the pace of individual songs changes - whether it’s the vocals, guitars or keys - there’s this ongoing distorted, somewhat ethereal sound that runs through each track holding them all together.

All Arctic Monkeys albums ranked from worst to best This week Arctic Monkeys'  I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor turns 20, and we all know what happened from there. 4 teenagers from Sheffield blew up in the biggest way possible. 20 years. Half my lifetime, half their lifetime. So, it felt timely to reflect and take a look back at all of their albums. I’ve been asked for this quite a lot over the years so here you go - my ranking of Arctic Monkeys albums from ‘worst’ to best.

Review: Merpire – Howler, Brunswick Third time was the charm as I finally got to see Merpire perform for her album launch on Thursday night at Brunswick’s Howler. It was fantastic to finally hear the songs from MILK POOL live, and while I was gutted to have missed the early shows this year, I honestly think seeing them performed with a full band was probably the best possible live experience.

Well of course I’m excited for the main act that’s the whole reason I’m here! And this happens way too often - support acts having little audience connection nor making the most of the opportunity in front of them, so as a regular audience member at a gig here's 5 better things a support act can do instead:

Album Review: Lola Young – I’m only F**cking Myself Lola Young has quickly followed up on the blow-up success of TikTok super hit Messy with her new album I’m Only F**king Myself. Opening with F**K EVERYONE an angrier, rocky/dance number hints at a change in direction for I'm Only F**king Myself, but this quickly gives way to a more familiar Lola Young sound and I’m grateful that while she’s experimented musically she’s not strayed too far from what feels authentically her.

Album Review: People Mover – Cane Trash Brisbane jangle trio People Mover drop their new album Cane Trash this Friday. A collection of songs shaped by the Queensland heat and distinct visions of childhood homes, Cane Trash captures the messiness of being in your twenties through glistening guitars and melodies that stick like a seatbelt in summer. The juxtaposition between the upbeat jingly guitars and the more sedated delivery of the sad, sentimental lyrics is a welcome refresh from many more typical indie bands.
