I'm never ceased to be amazed at how unaware and stupid some teachers are.

"Why aren't we being paid at these rates?!? They began on January 27th!!!"

Well, idiot, you,re a primary teacher and we are still in negotiations because we rejected a similar offer.
That's the secondary teacher settlement.

It really makes a difference when a key person you rely on moves out of town.

Expressway will slow to a crawl for nine months of repairs The transport agency will spend $80 million on nine months of repairs between Cambridge and Tamahere, on a section opened just over 10 years ago.

Oh look! Another shiny new expressway needing major repairs after only 10 years of operation.
We’re really shit at this stuff, aren’t we?

I was hangry and not a polite customer last night.

Normally I roll with it, but there's been too many times they have run out of various product lately.

Ok, I think I've tested the limits on that orange light for the fuel tank.

Wellington resident horrified after raw sewage 'exploded' from his toilet Wellington Water apologised for the shock, stress and inconvenience caused after sewage entered people's bathrooms.

Wellington resident horrified after raw sewage 'exploded' from his toilet.

Another good reason to ALWAYS put the lid down after using the toilet.

Dr Hinemoa Elder: We need more mental health care in NZ The psychiatrist, author and former TV presenter says in these β€œextremely trying times” we have never needed more resources.

Dr Hinemoa Elder says there’s never been more need for mental health resources to help navigate, β€œextremely trying times”.
β€œYou know, I'm 60 years old and this feels like the worst confluence of horrible and terrifying global and more local experiences that I've seen in my life.”

Pepper has been attempting to bond with Tortypus this weekend.

Tortypus is unimpressed, has growled a few times and once swatted Pepper. But Tortypus seems to think running away from Pepper is effective strategy for now.

But PFFFTTT to Hamilton being a suburb of Auckland!

Really quick chart to show the rise of declared state of emergencies due to sever weather events. See the trend?

Also we are only 45 days into 2026!

Can we talk about climate change now?

On the TPB: β€œWe may have lost the vote, but we won the debate.”
β€œThe experiment of dividing ourselves into a Treaty partnership between Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti has been a disaster.”
He draws false equivalence between TPB/Homosexual Law Reform, noting the latter took three attempts to pass.

Pay equity changes make new claims 'virtually impossible' – unions Union representatives concede previous pay equity legislation was imperfect, but argue the Government's changes have raised the bar to an impossibly high level

(Pausing here to note positioning of pay equity costs as β€œsavings” is deeply reprehensible and that the consistent advice from advocates and experts is that the legislation change made achieving pay equity harder for New Zealand women.)

There’s consistent positioning of ACT having the answers, predictably around austerity: β€œtough but unpopular decisions”, β€œhard choices”, β€œsavings”, β€œefficiency”, β€œcost pressures”, β€œaffordable”.
School lunches are of course positioned as a success, as is $12 billion β€œsaved” on pay equity legislation.

If I wanted to write a speech to retain my base while also appealing to NZF, National and potentially some Labour voters, this would be it.
β€œTelling it like it is” could also be read as β€œtelling it closely aligned to the Atlas worldview”, which is why media context/critique is vital.
A few thoughts🧡

I didn’t note in the 🧡 but it should be said that this is the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Trump has eroded what leadership looks like, and right now, if we don’t hold up these words against the values we say we hold and seek accountability, it’s our values that shift, not the behaviour.

Waipā District Council has sent notification for Pirongia locals affected by flooding to evacuate to the Pirongia Rugby Club.

My colleague is the Club Captain. I bet he wasn't thinking about this eventuality as we had a good old sing-along at the staff do on Friday night.
