How to figure out if a compost brand is good or not and the brands of peat free compost I use | Jack Wallington | Nature & Gardens Around the world the vast majority of plants on earth grow in a mix of mineral soil and composted organic matter - only those in peatland grow in peat. Over the last ten years I have grown almost ever...

If you're still using peat based compost, it really is time to stop. It's dug straight out of precious natural habitat and releases tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere (literally) in the process. Here's a guide, there are loads of good brands out there www.jackwallington.com/how-to-figur...

These are not natural disasters.

These are fossil-fuelled disasters, from decades of drilling and disinformation by oil and gas corporations.

Now they must pay for the damage they have caused.

Naturrestaurering blir allt viktigare!

Does authorship mean anything when academic papers are simply citable tokens? The bibliometric infrastructure of citations has become an inescapable organising feature of academic life. Drawing on a range of evidence of the use and misuse of citations data, Stuart Macdonald …

"The notion that the best papers are the most cited papers was always questionable
The most citable, and therefore publishable, papers are mundane, ‘water is wet’ papers
What was once the most cited paper of all is about cleaning test tubes"

How to prepare ourselves for a collapse that will likely happen (sometime) in the future?
That is one of the questions students asked in advance of a panel discussion I will attend tomorrow. It breaks my heart that they even have to worry about this. What a failure by my and previous generations. 😓

The world has been warming faster than expected. Scientists now think they know why | CNN Last year was the hottest year on record, oceans boiled and glaciers melted at alarming rates, and it has left scientists scrambling to understand exactly why.

"Low clouds are disappearing because of global warming, and their disappearance then drives further warming.

If this is happening, future warming projections may be underestimated and “we should expect rather intense warming in the future.”

DN Debatt.

Folks: do not sleep on this amazing new tool launched by Al Gore called "Climate Trace". I have never seen an emissions map quite like this. Uses satellites and *assigns emissions to company sources* (!!)

Look at what we've done to the North Sea:

Higher soil moisture increases microclimate temperature buffering in temperate broadleaf forests Forest canopies can buffer the understory against temperature extremes, often creating cooler microclimates during warm summer days compared to temper…

Forests can lose their temperature buffering function when soils become drier.
This is bad news in a changing climate with more frequent and severe soil drought.
