Not Terrible Curling

Finally got Thursday league win tonight against a team with about 100 years of curling to our 3 5U and 1 with about 8 years. Played vice & hit some really nice shots. Two in the last end to seal it with peel weight hits through tight ports. Skip chipped shot rock for handshakes.

Monday W. Handshakes after 6. Skipper back from Nationals with a 4th place finish but 1st place in our hearts. My best game of the half season so far. Nice to get that monkey off my back. Was in general area every shot but the exact area more often than not. Hope to build off it.

Thursday league has not been going great. But we have been having fun. A lot of fun tonight. Had a guy I played in Fairbanks, who curls out of Anchorage, in at Potomac to spare on our team with his girlfriend. The curling community is really cool.

Well. My GPS taking me by the Capitol Building on the same day that the State of the Union is happening certainly was a choice it made.

No game last night with skipper competing at Men’s Nationals. Nice to chill on a Monday.

I really enjoy seeing club level misses on shots from the best curlers in the world. Brings me a sense of peace.

Monday dub. We were up pretty big but let them back in it after some uncharacteristic misses. It’s not helpful when the lead (me) shoots like 50%. Luckily skip only had to throw a guard with his first rock in the 8th and then walk down his last after handshakes. On bye next week.

He hit two shots like that. The first one was like a rock and a half wide. I was talking with a buddy on the other team and he was like “I wouldn’t even if considered throwing that.”

Win in men’s league tonight on skippers last shot. I’m not exaggerating when I say the port he put a 7 second rock though was about a rock and a quarter wide for the hit and stick to win. I didn’t play well, but man…it’s wild playing with someone of that caliber. He’ll be at this US Men’s Nationals.

I was thinking the same being earlier.

Thoughts and prayers.

Monday men’s leave late draw. 9-2 dub. Took a minute to get used to our ice again but had it fairly dialed eventually. Skipper is very good. Former Juniors bronze medalist and will be at men’s nationals. Trying to learn as much as I can while I can.

The pin we won. We were most certainly 4th event runners up.

Pictures from Madison. Got the Frozen 5U we won on the spiel hat! Also won a signed Team Edin broom head cover. First time I’ve ever won a raffle!

4th event runner up. The theme of being just off enough to lose came back. Great time and we leave with hardware. Not upset about playing in a final in Madison.

Touched button on warm draw tie breaker to win the 4th event semi. Play in the final a little later today.

Good win for us today. Win in the early draw tomorrow and we are in an event final.

We also shut down the club broom stacking at a spiel in Wisconsin, which is quite the achievement from what I’ve been told.

Woof. I was terrible in the second game. We shook after 4. Since we were the late draw and it was still early in it we switched up teams and positions then played a couple of more ends. Got a win in the pick up game and threw very well. Looking forward to building off that.

First game took us a bit to adjust to the slow ice. Came back towards the end but didn’t pull it out.

A event is for suckers anyway.

Playing a team that knocked us out last year and who has already qualified at least once.

Well. Coming here was a choice.

Chena Lake on Saturday. Had to do the long exposure, though. Wish we had stayed a few more days.

Lost in the second event semi final yesterday. One of the best spiels I’ve been to. What a blast.

Lost the game we needed to win this morning. If we had won, we would of been the top seed from our pool. Now we are top seed of consolation bracket. Our LSD was best of entire spiel. I put two on the button and one in the back 8. First round bye tomorrow after we won tonight.

Our shirts for Madison next week. 3 different clubs coming together to have a great time.

2-1 in pool play. Won a good one tonight after a strategy switch after the break.

We put one on the button and one on the pin on our LSD. Best by a mile in our pool there.

Lost close in our second game. Just off enough all game as a team to not be able to pull it out. We all feel really good though and my LSD hit the button. Lots to build off.

Friday morning pick up game dub. Back at @Lonestarcurling like I never left. Fun being back on arena ice. Great to skip again, too. Had the pleasure of being on a sheet next to @ibkabbitle. Hit a fun long run back take out for 3 in the second.
