not sure how it is in history but in my experience even years ago in philosophy almost nobody in the universities I worked in had much of a clue what happened immediately prior to university and it can make such a difference

I forgot also the culpability condition only applies to cases of hermeneutical injustice — but plausibly since this is a case of the wholesale restructuring of what counts as knowledge resources let alone conceptual resources this is going to fall closer to that camp than anything testimonial

This is another really good example and imo reflects partly what Dotson’s talking about when she says contributory ignorance occurs when dominant knowledge systems lack the resources internally to recognise the existence of alternative viable epistemic systems

Tbh epistemic injustice as a framework literally can’t handle this case and that’s not just a right wing misrepresentation but other more politically sensitive/oriented frameworks can!

This is actually a really helpful example because under the letter of epistemic injustice since it’s culpable it doesn’t count — but the deliberate and systematic attempt to defund, remove, erase and eradicate whole courses, departments and sections of libraries seems obviously epistemically unjust

In the House of Lords today, a government minister refused to rule this out.

To be clear, this would amount to legalising theft. It would fly in the face of public opinion on what is fair, and would mean a surrender of British creatives' work by this Labour government.
