OBITUARY: The DOE Climate Working Group Report, 2025–2026 it died in a footnote

People expect 'greens' to be talking about climate - 'of course they'd say that, they're an environmentalist'

But when people who aren't the usual suspects talk about it, it turns it from a niche concern to a mainstream concern

'Everyday influencers' are vital for reaching social tipping points

How America Chose Not to Hold the Powerful to Account Our national project of elite impunity

After the arrests of powerful men across the world, you might be asking why the US has so much trouble holding its leaders accountable for lawbreaking. Since Nixon, all three branches of government have worked hard to ensure they can break the law with impunity www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

What Elon Has Done Elon Musk's destruction of USAID has faded from public consciousness in America, despite leaving death and destruction in its wake.

β€œWhat matters is making it clear that the people Musk has killed…had lives that mattered as much as yours or mine, and that gleefully snuffing them out by the hundreds of thousands is not a mere peccadillo, but a crime on the scale of that committed by the defendants at Nuremberg.”

Boycott Elon.

hey some rare good news: the us is installing a SHIT TON of batteries right now!

It can take science orgs a bit of time after the end of the year to stitch together all the observations of global surface temperature into an annual picture. All 5 of the major datasets are now available, so we’ve put together the latest annual update. #ClimateFacts #ScienceMatters [1/8]

Trump's Climate Supercomputer Plans Threaten US Insurance Market: Actuaries A new letter from the American Academy of Actuaries draws a direct line between the planned dismantling of NCAR and higher homeowners insurance costs for US consumers.

Even actuaries are concerned about insurance markets, and corrupt fossil fuel efforts to impede climate risk research. Consumers will pay.

Big Tech Says Generative AI Will Save the Planet. It Doesn't Offer Much Proof A new report finds that of 154 specific claims about how AI will benefit the climate, just a quarter cited academic research. A third included no evidence at all.

when big tech companies say that AI will save the planet, what kinds of AI are they actually talking about β€”Β and what's their proof? i took a look at some great new research from @ketanjoshi.co and talked to other experts about how a lot of this talk is probably bullshit:

NEW report out today: I dig deep into how big tech has been muddling tech types and overstating evidence to claim "AI" will make global emissions drop like a stone....

Not only will it not, it seems to be verifiably doing the opposite!!

The scientific understanding of human-driven climate change is much stronger today than it was in 2009 when the EPA first issued the endangerment finding. There is no scientific basis for the Trump administration's decision to repeal it

Climate science removed from judicial manual after GOP complaints Republican attorneys general argued the new chapter would put judges β€œfirmly on one side” of climate lawsuits against the fossil fuel industry.

More disturbing news today about the removal of scientific evidence from decision-making processes in our federal government. Censoring educational materials about the climate crisis will not make it go away - it will just make our public institutions less equipped to deal with it.

Meet Jacquie Pierri, your Winter Olympics climate hero She grew up in New Jersey, built a career in clean energy and is playing hockey this month for the Italian women's team in Milan Cortina.

Winter Olympics start tonight! I wrote about Jacquie Pierri, a women's hockey player who is also a sustainable energy engineer and vocal climate advocate when she's not winning championships around the world. Such a badass. You need to hear her story: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/jacquie-pi...

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.
