I guess we are just paying these people to fly around making workout videos and attending sporting events.

Excellent point, but then you have the driverless cabs dealing with terrible human drivers and I'm not sure the outcomes on that combo will be so good either.

Britain is a rich country which has been captured by a small number of it's richest individuals over a number of decades. Its media hunts in packs, creating salience from irrelevancies, generating fears in the population unrelated to their actual problems in life and promoting the scapegoating of minorities while conducting little to no structural assessments of the real problems that the political and social worlds have inherited and intensified.

It is surely of no little significance that it turns out that this model of public capture of political discourse for private gain is one which is revealed by these Epstein documents to have had been a global formula.

Agreed, though that's not how most taxpayers think about their balance sheet. Indeed, they don't think about their personal finances as a balance sheet at all. (Though they probably should.)

The correct response by any state to an executive order "nationalizing" or "taking over" its election administration is laugh & say "eat a bag of dicks" (as Colorado has done in response to the futile & null attempt to "pardon" a criminal for a Colorado state conviction).

Every single headline abt some bullshit executive order needs to start w the word "PURPORTED".

SHOCKER: Democrats accidentally discover how to drown out Fox News Democrats may never win the propaganda war. But we can win the 'Love thy neighbor' war.

My brief history of the opposition to Trump 2 is catching more eyes than normal for me. What I learned briefly blogging at WIRED.com 20+ YEARS AGO is still true. 90% of the game is the title and featured image.

Today we learned that the Washington Post lost $100 million last year. At that rate, Jeff Bezos can only support it for the next 2,243 years before his fortune would be exhausted! Clearly the only solution is more layoffs.

I keep reminding people that admins hate English departments because they are popular (read: inefficient), not because they aren’t. AI is in a long line of technologies that promise to solve that problem for them.

Yale and 30 other universities have made deals with the Trump administration to end their partnerships with an organization that the government accused of discrimination for aiding members of underrepresented groups in seeking doctoral degrees, the Department of Education announced in a press release on Thursday.

The nonprofit organization, called the PhD Project, provides resources β€” such as mentoring, conferences and networking β€” to people from underrepresented groups who are seeking doctorates in business fields, and encourages them to enter academia or management.

No full-time staff who were in Kyiv on Feb. 24, 2022 for The Post are still with the paper.

banner advertising Semafor's annual "trust in media" conference featuring a long list of people who are actually eroding trust in media, like Brendan Carr and Matt Murray and Mathias Dopfner

once a year the brunchlords at Semafor host a "restoring trust in news" conference where they unironically platform most of the people responsible for destroying trust in news, then lob softball questions at them

this year's lineup is a real doozy

(notice the complete absence of indie media)
