Before Cassini entered its Grand Finale orbits, it acquired unprecedented views of the outer edges of the main ring system. For example, this close-up view of the Keeler Gap, which is near the outer edge of Saturn's main rings, shows in great detail just how much the moon Daphnis affects the edges of the gap. This image was part of a mosaic that included Daphnis (PIA17212). Daphnis creates waves in the edges of the gap through its gravitational influence. Some clumping of ring particles can be seen in the perturbed edge, similar to what was seen on the edges of the Encke Gap back when Cassini arrived at Saturn in 2004. This view looks toward the sunlit side of the rings from about 3 degrees above the ring plane. The view was acquired at a distance of approximately 18,000 miles (30,000 kilometers) from Daphnis and at a Sun-Daphnis-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 69 degrees. Cassini narrow-angle camera mosaic of Iapetus taken on 2004-12-31 22:30 UTC. Five clear filter frames were assembled into a global view and colorized using vastly lower resolution wide-angle camera color data taken at roughly the same time. Approximately natural colors.

I guess I should also add, I’ve totally failed at making characters and organic things in blender. Like… given up and hidden the files so I don’t have to look at them. That probably factors into my feelings on the matter.

Well… it’s mostly a facade. None of these are textured because I don’t really know how to do that. If you look deep, you’ll find the models have broken geometry. I copy and paste nodes to create radiator glow but I don’t really know how to do it myself etc. I just don’t feel competent in the program

I don’t really know how to use blender… at all. I usually just build models for my drawings (to get accurate shapes/perspectives/lighting) rather than spend the time on models like these.

Alteration of the official New Horizons "extended color" release in order to approximate true color. This works on the assumption that the green and blue channels in the official MVIC release represent essentially raw MVIC red and blue filters. The green and blue channels were blended (55% red, 45% blue; determined by comparing to older true color image releases). The green channel in the official image release became red, and the synthetic green channel was inserted in its place.
