Haven't been there for decades. There was a lot of volcanic ash around when I visited.

No clue. Utterly unbelievable for anyone who knows the Western Isles. Never been to one, but apparently there's one near me in the Bigg Market, Newcastle.

Simpler Solar Regulations Would Save Americans $1.2 Trillion A new analysis by Permit Power calculates the cumulative benefits of cheap rooftop solar over the lifetime of a typical rig.

In Germany, a standard 7kW rooftop solar system costs $10,000.

In Australia, it costs $4,000.

In the US, the same system costs about $28,000 โ€” thanks partly to a mess of state, local, and HOA rules, per a new analysis shared with @alexckaufman.bsky.social:

Barra seems a bit more likely and Lewis less so, but this seems like "hallucination" - I've camped on Benbecula. Unless the Western Isles have changed out of all recognition, it has almost zero probability of being true.

Everyone talks about a โ€˜deep stateโ€™. This Essay flips itโ€”it's a rightโ€‘wing coalition of billionaires, think tanks, media empires pushing a fascist agenda. How did we get here? Find the hidden script. https://americanmanifesto.news/the-real-deep-state

I know Northern Ireland well and visit it regularly. Flags have been used for territorial marking/intimidation for decades. I totally see the ugliness and am terrified by the direction of travel.

Nigel Farage

Three of my great uncles, heroes all, died in World War Two to stop men like this. Will we now allow them to saunter into power?

Lessons from the 2004 North East Devolution referendum The North East's 2004 devolution bid, thwarted by false claims of "more politicians," left the region trapped in inequality and neglect

One Dominic Cummings was a prominent member of the NO campaign. There was a lot of misinformation and a very low turnout. This is not a bad summary from John Hall northeastbylines.co.uk/news/devolut...

Defeated very badly. Disappointing, as I currently live in the Northeast and strongly supported devolution.

Hereโ€™s how we change the narrative on the small boats Populists thrive on fear and repetition. To counter the small boats saga, here's how we must reshape the story

Fear has owned the small boats story for too long and it's allowed populists to thrive. Itโ€™s time to reclaim the narrative โ€“ here's how. โคต๏ธ

Farage party picked a dead woman to run for Croydon Mayor EXCLUSIVE: Sharon Carby, aged 70, from Bradford, sadly died in July 2024. But that didnโ€™t stop Reform UK six months later picking her as their Croydon mayoral candidate. By our Political Editโ€ฆ

This is just next level insanity.

In January this year, Reform picked Sharon Carby, aged 70, from Bradford, to run as their Croydon Mayoral candidate.

There was just one rather significant problem.

She had sadly died in July 2024.

The low corporation tax rate, initially 10%, has been in place for 70 years, when there were no corporations to speak of. When I arrived in Sheffield in '81 S. Yorks alone had a higher industrial output than Ireland. Now, per capita, it is about 10x higher than the UK

The one that really confused me was "we have a mod" problem at the Multi-Mirror Telescope (MMT) in Arizona, where I was based at the time. The MMT was based at the top of Mt Hopkins, and it was a breeding place for millions of "moths" come the season.
