This Black August, we must recommit ourselves to taking up the baton from our ancestors & follow their roadmap to freedom.
That means fighting the MAGA regime’s white supremacist agenda today & rewriting the rules so we can finally deliver Black dreams & make this a place of real equality for all.

During the late 1970s, when the white supremacist faction targeted, imprisoned, and even assassinated leaders of groups like the Black Panthers, a group of Black political prisoners in San Quentin State Prison started the first Black August to commemorate their struggle for freedom and justice.

Black August is an opportunity to learn the history, achievements, and lessons of Black abolitionists and civil rights leaders.

It looks like a place where peace and opportunity and resources are not predetermined by my children’s zip code or the color of their skin. It looks like Black communities that are receiving additional resources, favor and opportunity are a blessing. It looks like communities being able to speak openly about the harms that have been committed against the darker people of the world, and it being received with an open heart and an open mind, with empathy and with compassion. It looks like programs that are designed to help Black children succeed in a world that has kept its foot on their necks and judged them and taken away resources that could help them excel, like other children from other communities.
The Chicago Reparations Task Force is meeting for the first time this week: a huge step towards true equality and reckoning for the third largest city in the country.

This exclusion is typical of the white supremacist faction.
Many people who lived near this testing site and the children born after that period of time suffered from rare cancers and diseases caused by the nuclear fallout.
These communities have been fighting for the federal government to repair these harms for generations.
On July 16, 1945, Manhattan Project scientists detonated an atomic bomb for the first time ever at the Trinity test site in New Mexico.
Almost 500,000 people, mainly Latine and Native Americans, lived within 150 miles of the explosion
