RFK Jr.'s Autism Findings Are In. Just Kidding. September 2025 update: RFK Jr. promised autism "causes" by now, but no findings have been delivered. Yet, he's cut $40M in research while pushing vaccine myths.

Your gut microbiome—the bacteria, viruses, and fungi in your digestive system—does more than just help you process food. These microbes can actually support your mood, stress responses, and overall cognitive function.2 Some scientists call the gut a “second brain,” though honestly, some days it feels like it’s making better decisions than the OG brain.

Science Translation: Finding different gut bacteria in ADHDers is interesting, but it doesn’t mean those bacteria cause ADHD. It’s correlation, not causation—like how people with ADHD often have more coffee cups on their desk, but the coffee cups didn’t give them ADHD.

The current research situation is like building ikea furniture when instructions from various sets—lots of pieces that might go together, but good luck figuring out how. Still, it's helpful to understand the science behind specific strains and what those studies might mean.

Strains That Actually Have Studies Behind Them .
Few probiotics have been researched for their effects on ADHD, and nothing is definitive just yet. But here are two strains to keep an eye on:

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG)
LGG has been examined in a few contexts. In one study, newborns took LGG every day for six months, and researchers tracked them until age 13. Their findings? Fewer kids in the probiotic group, compared to placebo, were diagnosed with ADHD or autism.

For children already diagnosed with ADHD, researchers focus on how probiotics might affect behaviors and symptoms. In a 12-week study, taking LGG didn’t change core symptoms like inattention or hyperactivity, but it did improve overall quality of life.

So, while these studies add to the conversation about a possible link between neurodevelopment and the gut microbiome—specifically L. rhamnosus strains—they don’t explain “how” or “why.”

Bifidobacterium bifidum Bf-688
In a small 2022 study, kids with ADHD took B. bifidum Bf-688 for eight weeks and showed improvements in attention and hyperactivity symptoms. They also gained a bit of weight, and the mix of bacteria in their gut shifted while taking the probiotic—changes that mostly faded after they stopped.

Encouraging results? Maybe—but with no placebo group and only 30 kids, it’s hard to tell if the probiotic deserves credit or if something else was at play. For now, it’s a clue, not a conclusion. Bigger, better studies will have to settle the score.

What type of ADHD do you have? I have the "sometimes agrees to plans enthusiastically, but then panics and cancels at the last minute" type

"I wish I had ADHD. I wish I had your kind of energy"

-An old coworker of mine

Had to explain to her that the energy we feel is mostly pure unfiltered raw anxiety that doesn't go away and also doesn't allow us to stay still. I hate that some people treat it as a quirky kinda thing

Russell Barkley once said that people with ADHD don't have an attention deficit, but an INTENTION deficit, and honestly I can't stop thinking about it.

Friendly reminder that ADHD is so much more than struggling with attention.

It's struggling with emotions.
& organization.
& motivation.
& decision making.
& short term memory.
& prioritization.
& impulsivity.
& rejection.
& time management.
& consistency.
& friendships.

Don't put us in a box.

So, let me get this straight.

The people who swear climate change is "fake news" are also convinced that people are somehow "controlling the weather" to cause catastrophic events?

Make it make sense. My overly analytical brain is struggling to understand how people can be so stupid. 😭😭

Today's my 32nd birthday! 🥳

According to pop psychology, because I have ADHD, I apparently have 3 more years until I have a fully developed prefrontal cortex. (Not sure how much truth there is to that though)

Trump talking about autism:

"Think of it this way... out of 10,000 people, only 18 are safe."

Not only did he make the absurdly false claim that 9,982 people out of a sample of 10,000 people (99.82%) are autistic...

He said that if you’re NOT autistic, then you're "safe".

What the actual fuck.

Not for me this time. Our plants are in plain sight — above the kitchen sink, by the back door, near my hammock (where I go every day)

Both task paralysis & "outta sight outta mind" can certainly be the culprit depending on the ADHDer & their set-up.

But yes. Big fan of fake plants. Less needy. 😂

Because it’s not that I don’t know the consequences of not watering the flowers. Obviously I'm aware of how it works.

But with ADHD, knowing HOW and WHY isn't equivalent to actually doing it. And WANTING to do it isn’t the same as starting.

Executive dysfunction doesn’t care if the flowers die. 🫠

03.07.2025 13:46 — 👍 12    🔁 3    💬 0    📌 0

Last night, I told my husband, “thanks for watering the flowers!"

He just kinda shrugged and said, “well they’d die if I didn’t...”

Like??? That’s all the motivation he needed??

No task paralysis, no dopamine calculus, no shame spiral, no color coded lists.

Just... LOGIC → ACTION

Wild.

Neurotypical brain:
"If I don’t water the flowers, they’ll die."
*waters flowers every day*

ADHD brain:
"If I don’t water the flowers, they’ll die."
*thinks about this every day while walking past dying flowers*

Having ADHD means constantly existing outside of the flow state. 🫠

Except for when you're in hyperfocus mode, and it's usually on something that's not important.
