all of this is info that i've yet to talk about in CMI oops, Icarus just honestly doesn't care (but we will get more of this info with Odysseus because he's an unreliable narrator in a v different way than Icarus is)

Icarus was groomed for this government. He was the perfect child and the ideal of the Elysian Program until he got out, but there's still a lot of unlearning to do. It's hard to see what you idolized for so long as bad, even if you have evidence that shows it is

-a militaristic entity than anything. So basically, ATLAS brought the US under it's control through a coup, enlisted environmentalists to become military personel to walk the streets all day every day, and rules as a corpocratic triumvirate

-enough to halt climate change. They then staged a coup and took control of the gov't in the late 2010's, early 2020's.

After this, they introduced the Elysian Program as an education path with the goal of "bringing back the old gods to fix what humanity couldn't", though the Elysuans act more as-
