Robert Graves' 'Greek Myths' suggests that prior to the rise of the religions we know now, there was a process whereby goddess/fertility-worshipping cults were replaced by ones worshipping male deities: preserved in the folk memory as defeat of Medusa, etc. Not sure how seriously this is taken now.

Absouitley this. I genuinely miss what Twitter *was* and really enjoyed some pretty full and frank exchanges of views. But it's not there, and I don't really accept that I have a duty to it.

Precisely this. And the old site was fantastic at sharing good news among my professional (and personal) circle. The downgrading of links and anything happy has rendered it useless for all the things that made it worthwhile. And now I just have to argue with right wing friends in person...
