What a crap headline. Should read: β€œCathedral bass sacked after protesting over job losses in song form.” This makes it sound like he did the Monty Python Penis Song at Matins…

But still doesn’t beat the fact that Cleopatra is closer to us in time than she was to the building of the Great Pyramid.

It is alleged that Nigel Farage aged 16-18 (1980-82) vocally objected to the number of Patels at Dulwich College.

A fellow pupil remembers him burning the booklet on these grounds.

The Guardian shows that this witness testimony aligns with the names + stats in the 1980 yearbook

Not sure who it was now (to my shame) but one of the scholarly accounts of Druidery points out the strong prevalence of Celtic names in the early church hierarchy, suggesting that the old intellectual and spiritual leaders merged quite quickly into the new faith.

β€œBut there’s no market for women composers…” Let’s retire this tired idea please.

**NEW POST**

This week on women composers and "marketability", and why the idea that there's no market for women composers is nonsense. If somebody says this, what they actually mean is THEY don't know enough about the music to know how to market it.

Wonderful to hear Avril Coleridge-Taylor’s music.
Prompted me to look into her mother Jessie Walmisley. Also super musical she studied at the RAM (where she met Avril’s father, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor).
Very interested to see that Jessie was at school with pupils of Afro-Caribbean heritage.

Highly recommend former FLA guest @leahbroad.bsky.social's blog posts. This one's about composer Avril Coleridge-Taylor (1903-98), and an excellent new disc of recordings, notably her piano concerto. Lots of links to music, essays and broadcasts.
