One example of the extra costs of being disabled is having to buy a small generator for my electric bed in case of power cuts during storms.
Couldn't be provided by OT.
Being on the priority services register only lets you know there's a storm coming and to be prepared.

Insightful report by @consumerscotland.bsky.social; very welcome to see additional, targeted energy affordability support for terminally ill people in its recommendations.

1 in 5 people die in fuel poverty at EOL in Scotland, @johnswinney.bsky.social & Scot Gov have an opportunity to change that.

Terminally ill people can face high energy costs when they are least able to mange them. @consumerscotland.bsky.social’s new report recommends the Scottish Government targets extra support through the Special Rules for Terminal Illness, which allow for quicker access to benefits.

It is often difficult to target affordability support to those that really need it. But this report, led by @graceremmington.bsky.social, has identified a mechanism to do that.

It’s been a privilege to work with experts by experience and a range of disability organisations across Scotland including
@mariecurieuk.bsky.social and other amazing Scottish charities.

πŸ“’βœ¨Absolutely delighted this report has been published. It’s felt like a very personal research project for me as a disabled person myself!

The report looks at how best to design energy support for disabled people.

Please do take a read and reshare!
