I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

McCarthyism made anti-communism look bad and gave cover to actual communists. When Communists were *everywhere and everyone*, soon, no one believed there were any communists anywhere in the government.
Spoiler: There were, actually, communists in the USG.
You'd think this would be a lesson today.

This is how meme culture makes people dumber. Some of these are totalitarianism, some of them are just things you don't like. (How concerned are you about national security before you're "obsessed"? What qualifies as "controlled" media?)

My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.

The left needs to imitate that attitude instead of engaging in a crazy assholery contest with the right.

Yes, but they don't have to be exactly the same. They're both being oppressive in different ways. I think the right is worse, but the left still loses more because they refuse to stop needlessly alienating people.

This is how I imagine every person on here who responds to my posts about the biology of sex.

I can’t tell you how different it is on X now after so many people have left. I have always followed mostly right-wing accounts because I cover them, and they are running out of people to pick fights with. So they’re just mostly fighting with each other.

The trouble, of course, is when both sides are being oppressive.
