I have booked myself into back to back parent teacher conferences, a mentoring orientation meeting, and a convention planning meeting, on the same day my wife flies to Japan. Oh, and report cards are due tomorrow morning. I have accomplished the rare but impressive Quintuplet booking lutz.

NEW β€” An obscure Navy contractor program is making Trump’s plans to quickly build out and supply immigrant concentration camps around the country a reality.

Here I explain WEXMAC TITUS, an acronym you need to understand:

if the US government logs these trees at the rate / quantity they're proposing, we'll lose one of the last old-growth forests. there's no coming back from that. if you have five minutes to leave a comment pushing back against the BLM, please do; there's a guide to that below.

Sedgwick’s prescription is β€œreparative reading,” a theory of more flexible sense-making that can hold truth and provide an antidote to the overwhelming paranoia of our times. While the conventional wisdom states, β€œJust because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean you don’t have enemies,” Sedgwick turns this formula on its head: β€œJust because you have enemies doesn’t mean you have to be paranoid.” Or to put it another way, having a direct understanding of systemic oppression (the healthcare system, police violence, the fascist state) does not condemn a person to a categorically paranoid point of view. To practice a worldview more expansive and more open to possibilities than paranoia does not mean you have to deny the reality or gravity of oppression.

Feeling paranoid about stochastic violence and weaponized media? Me too. That's why I can't stop thinking about this incredibly helpful essay by @littlewow.online in @flaminghydra.com about the idea of "reparative reading" as a corrective to the "paranoid style." flaminghydra.com/issue-511/

White and yellow graphic with the logo for Lee & Low Books at the top. The graphic is titled β€œContact the Governor Day - March 2nd”. Beneath the title is an illustration of a child with long blonde hair riding on the back of an open book that appears to be flying through the air. The child has one of their arms outreached, holding up a fist. There are two smaller open books flying on either side of them. At the bottom, body text says, β€œSwipe through for simple action items to help protect the Freedom to Read!”

Today was an absolutely beautiful day in NYC. It was sunny. Clear skies. It was 51F which after this winter left me sweating in my unzipped puffer. I saw people strolling without jackets. Runners in shorts. And as I walked home, I thought about what it would be like to see bombers in the sky.

This is fantastic and honestly quite hopeful, because communities actually have a lot of levers they can pull to slow or obstruct these new camps. We've already seen the power of community organizing in compelling cities and towns to take steps opposing projects.
