All in all: a tough scenario! NATO armored forces are powerful, but even in defeat, the Warsaw Pact is not to be underestimated.

Victory calculation in WDS games is simple. You get points for terrain objectives, and for losses to the enemy (minus your own losses). I didn't take many objectives; casualties were 5:1 in men and 2.5:1 in vehicles in favor of NATO, which catapulted me to a Major Victory.

By the end of the scenario, my (very tired) troops were just on the outskirts of Fulda, with one Soviet division shattered and the other given a bloody nose. This was the situation. Note all the yellow chemical weapons markers!

The north attack got bogged down against stubborn resistance and tough terrain. The south proved equally... difficult. Lots of artillery mines and chemical attacks from the WP AI.

The terrain in front of Fulda had two "channels." A north route through an open valley, and a south route with a major road. I sent the armored cav on the north route; the West Germans took the south. Below is the situation in the north after 8 turns.

After-Action Report: Wargame Design Studio's Modern Campaigns Fulda Gap '85, scenario "Return to Fulda." 14 turns. After repulsing the Warsaw Pact thrust into Germany, NATO takes the offensive with an attack by 11 ACR and the West German 5 Panzer.
