This is horrific and feels like it should be a bigger deal. Business Insider reports that people who have worked at xAI have seen Grok create images and written material with child sex abuse material.

Bemoaning the cost of UK electricity and in the same breath promising to do the one thing guaranteed to cause that cost to stay sky high is the sort of intellectual brilliance you'll only get from the world's leading tech moguls.

Additionally, it'd be interesting to know how the negotiators for this UK/US Technology deal, are digesting this latest bit of news.

When I asked two years ago about Mandelsonโs role advising Starmer, his spokesman told me he had โno reason to believeโ Mandelson wasnโt a fit and proper person
Those reasons were there for anyone who wanted to see them. That Starmer either couldnโt, or wouldn't, tells us everything we need to know
Good riddance. ๐

Brilliant.

Itโs important to protect children online, but tech firms and legislators must make sure that they donโt lock children out of material they have a right to access โ and that the line between โappropriateโ and โinappropriateโ isnโt discriminatory.

Any guarantees that they won't be handed over to data mining firms without knowledge and/or permission etc?
I appreciate the sentiment of this but I'm getting real tired of seeing tech being seen as the only solution for social issues such as this. There are no simple fixes.
Equally, the vagueness about exactly how, who or what is going to classify what is, or isn't 'harmful' is a tad bit concerning.
We are deeply disappointed that the Data Bill will not include the necessary provisions to keep creators' works safe from being used without their knowledge or permission by AI companies, despite clear and unified calls from across the creative industries. (1/3)
