I climbed 300 feet at the rock gym on Tuesday, 400 on Thursday, and I’m hoping for 500 today. So far, I’m still on track to get the mile by August 31!

I'm trying vertical mile at the rock gym again this year. It's exactly what it sounds like -- climbing a total of 5,280 feet in the gym by August 31. Last year I failed miserably. Hoping for victory this time!

Let Niemöller's life serve as a cautionary tale to you. Things were fine for him until he asked questions and pushed back. He benefited from the system until he didn't fall in line, and it metaphorically ate him alive. We know history repeats itself. We are watching it in real time.

He was liberated when the Americans arrived at the Austrian camp where he was housed in the 1940s. When he wrote the poem in 1946, he FINALLY understood that hate, silence, and complicity had been the dead wrong choice.

It's likely he was still an antisemite at the time of his arrest, but his other political views are what landed him in a concentration camp. He towed the party line, he hated the "right" people but when he did push back, he became a political prisoner and spent years in a concentration camp.

That actually happened. By the mid 1930s, Niemöller began pushing back on the nazi party. According to the Holocaust Encyclopedia, Niemöller was arrested twice as he preached against the dictatorship and their attempts to get involved in church matters.

So how did his thinking transition? What caused him to pen the "First they came for" poem in the aftermath of World War II?

The poem ends with "Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me."

Get this, Niemöller was a raging antisemite. In the 1930s, as Hitler rose to power, Niemöller was a big fan. He fell in line with the political party. He preached that Jews deserved whatever they got because they had killed Christ.

🧵3 But who wrote it? I looked it up. It was written by Martin Niemöller, a Lutheran pastor and German nationalist The poem is a confession of how Niemöller and his fellow clergy members and other "good guys" in society didn't do anything to fight back as the nazis rose to power.

As a millennial who has now been living in unprecedented times since the sixth grade, I do a lot of thinking about world events, what they mean, and what in our history got us to them.

Today, I've read about:
-- ICE handcuffing literal children
--Military parades
--No Kings protests

Sorry, friends. I am unable to work today until I fix this Spiderman beach hat. The elastic came loose. Even though we aren't going to the beach for another month, this is of utmost importance and MUST be done immediately.

Update: Nobody got motion sick, my youngest thought the bird show was boring, but my middle kid absolutely loved the rollercoasters she was tall enough to ride.

Today, we’re taking the kids to Dollywood for the first time ever. I have a sinking suspicion that my oldest will need some Dramamine and my middle kid will have to be pried off the coasters. Youngest is most likely to get carried off by an eagle while laughing like a maniac.

They don’t know what that means, but it bought me a few seconds of peace.

Not me nearly in tears at Joann’s. Since I started sewing a decade ago, Joann’s has been my “need some alone time” store.
