YouTube video by Jimmy Kimmel Live Jimmy Kimmel Remembers His Best Friend and Bandleader Cleto Escobedo III

Jimmy Kimmel delivering a 22-minute eulogy of Cleto Escobedo III, his best friend of 45+ yrs, & leader of his show's band..

Two things hit me:
1. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, showing it's ok for men to cry
2. He names the docs/nurses that cared for Cleto

Why don't we do this? Braille on UK and EU packaging is mandatory for all medicinal products. In the US, we only have voluntary guidelines and standards for medicinal packaging.

Eugene Debs on a national level, but the election of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social seems more an update on the American socialist movement that was centered in Milwaukee from around 1892-1960. MKE had three 20c socialist mayors, though was a much less multicultural city than New York today.

Air Pollution From Industrial Facilities Is Far Worse Than Estimated The Trump administration has put a stop to EPA rules that would have required more than 130 industrial facilities to install air monitors to measure pollution. Millions of people living near these pla...

Our analysis of EPA air monitoring data shows that companies have far underestimated the pollution caused by their facilities.

At a U.S. Steel plant outside Pittsburgh, monitors found benzene levels 37 times higher than estimated emissions.

Armed ICE officers chase teacher into preschool in Chicago β€” The Washington Post The arrest appears to be one of the first in which immigration officers entered school grounds as part of an enforcement operation during Trump’s second administration.

Murderers and rapists, he said. Arrested: a preschool teacher.

Trump ends annual report on U.S. hunger amid rising food insecurity The Trump administration is ending a decades-long report on U.S. hunger, calling it β€œpoliticized.” Last year, the USDA report warned of rising food insecurity.

On top of refusing to reopen the government while withholding SNAP funding, this regime has cancelled USDA's annual hunger report.

They can try to erase the data that proves their cruelty, but they can’t erase the pain of MILLIONS of hungry Americans.

October 28, 2025 In the election of 1920, Americans handed a landslide victory to the Republicans and their presidential candidate Warren G.

"Republican leaders blamed poor Americans for the Great Depression, saying they drained the economy because they refused to work hard enough." The real problem? "The new economy of the 1920s benefited too few Americans to be sustainable." heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/october-28...

"I...would respectfully disagree with the suggestion that including a story 'below the fold' in our print edition negates this being a significant story in the eyes of The Times.
We deployed more than 20 reporters and a dozen photographers to cover the 'No Kings' protests on Saturday, and had comprehensive live coverage throughout the day as well as articles, photography, and video pieces....
"While we did have our two front-page photos on the protests, using print alone to measure a story's significance, impact, or reach is a partial and outdated assessment. Altogether, this was comprehensive on-the-ground coverage, in line with how we would approach documenting other comparable events.

I asked the NYT why it played the β€œNo Kings” paradesβ€”which drew an estimated 5 million+ protestersβ€”with two small photos below the fold on their Sunday Page One, teasing to a story on page 23.

Their spokesperson gave me this answer, excerpted in today’s Laurels/Darts.

The NYT downplayed the "No Kings" protests on its homepage, as well & dropped it pretty quickly downward, to where at some point late Sunday afternoon their coverage fell below the first 3 screens (on my laptop at least). Yes there were photos. But never a headline that encapsulated the magnitude.
