That discourse exists at all around what happened at the BAFTAs is evidence of how badly this has been handled. All parties involved deserve understanding and empathy, neither at the expense of the other. It should not have been broadcast, it should not have been allowed to become public debate.

I am low key terrified about the day I get dementia/some other brain business that removes my ability to filter. But it won’t be ‘revealing who I truly am’ - it will be that part of my brains not working right so I can’t convey who I truly am. (Ie a person who cares deeply about others).

Whilst I do not say awful things, my chaotic brain certainly has thoughts of all sorts. The prevailing idea in society that your thoughts betray who you truly are led me to develop quietly crippling OCD as I tried to ‘destroy’ the thoughts.

i think what this comes from is a very toxic form of "mental health inclusivity" that essentially acts like the only mental illness people ever have is a mild depression and does not reckon with any of the actually difficult questions linked to actually difficult illnesses
