25.10.2025 12:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Screenshot of Bluesky's pop-up window when choosing to add content warnings via self-labels for a post with images. There are two categories of labels, "Adult Content" and "Others" The Adult Content category contains the following labels: Suggestive, Nudity and Adult. Written over the screenshot is a note indicating that "Adult" is meant for Porn or Explicit Content. The Other category contains the "Graphic Media" label. Written over the screenshot is a note indicating that "Graphic Media" is meant for images showing Violence or Gore. Context for the post: A lot of artist put pornographic art under "Graphic Media" to mark their work as containing explicit adult themes meant for mature audiences. But the "Adult" label should be enough in most cases, even with kink, unless the image contains disturbing showcases of violence and/or gore.
Screenshot of Bluesky's Docs website, the screenshot features a section under Advanced Guides: Label and moderation. Omitting the parts irrelevant to this post, the text in the screenshot reads: Title: Global label values. There are a few label values which are defined by the protocol. They are: PORN: Which puts a warning on images and can only be clicked through if the user is 18+ and has enabled adult content. SEXUAL: Which behaves like PORN but is meant to handle less intense sexual content. GRAPHIC MEDIA: Which behaves like PORN but is for violence / gore. NUDITY: Which puts a warning on images but isn't 18+ and defaults to ignore.
The image contains the following text: Why does it matter which one you choose? Labeling correctly helps your work be more visible, since a lot of people are okay with seeing porn but may want to avoid more potentially disturbing content like gore, so they either have it set to warn or hide it entirely. Labeling correctly also means less people are inclined to risk revealing graphic media posts in order to find out if it's really graphic and upsetting or if it's just mislabeled porn.
NSFW Artists, when placing labels on your art, remember that "Adult" is for Porn and "Graphic Media" is for violence/gore.
Bsky could do a better job at making clear descriptions, but in case of doubt, the moderation segment on their docs makes it clearer:
