I’m the opposite; give me a deck to make and I’m happy as a clam.
PowerPoint? Canva? Gimme both.

Honestly, this is a good way to think about it. I see a lot of similarities between my favorite indie feds and my favorite local theatre troupes. In particular, those that have the audacity to swing big and the talent to back it up.
Buy a ticket, buy concessions, come back for the next one.
Picked up Inspector Mom 2 in honor of @maryjopehl.bsky.social’s birthday. The first riff was a riot, and it seemed like a good enough excuse! @rifftrax.com

People whose names sound like onomatopoeias from the ‘60s Batman show:
Bam Margera
Kat Timpf
Trent Lott
Rip Torn
Kirby Puckett
Bob Balaban (Batman is falling down the stairs in this one)
Is that 40+ oz bucket of coffee that Dunkin’ is promoting way too much coffee for one person in one sitting? Yes.
Do I want to purchase one? Also yes.
The Saturday night block on Maine PBS brought my friends and I together on good nights, and reliably kept me company on the bad ones. And Red Dwarf was always the anchor. Stuff would come and go, but Dwarf was always in rotation, and always welcome.

RIP Rob Grant, co-creator of Red Dwarf.
I feel like RD was the last gasp of truly countercultural stuff on public television. After it left the airwaves, it took Python, Blackadder, Fry and Laurie, even classic Doctor Who with it.
It also proved that absurdity makes a great canvas for pathos.
In fairness, movie riffs are a volume business.

Seriously, nothing says “90’s Spider-Man” like “Unlicensed Dio Era Black Sabbath.” Kind of a crime this song never ended up in any of the Venom movies.

Bonus points for squeezing a Lonely Island reference in there!

At the end of the day, Maximum Carnage is one of my very favorite brawlers of all time, and I’m glad to see it back.
And who knows. Spiritual sequel with Miles and Gwen down the line? Let’s all buy however many copies it takes to make that happen.
If they had to scrub the soundtrack to make it work, I’m fine with that as long as the replacement is good. I suspect MC’s been in limbo for so long for exactly this reason, and if that’s what it takes to bust it out, sure.
However, if they get to keep The Mob Rules on there, I’ll be very happy.
I’m very, very excited to see Maximum Carnage finally get a modern port!
I also have questions. MC notoriously “borrowed” some music without credit. The release mentions “new music” vaguely; does that mean we get Maximum Carnage with a safe-for-release soundtrack? Will Green Jelly still be in it? 🧵
Well, I HAVE A PLAN.

I was thinking more that MacArthur Park is SO out there that it managed to be funnier than a lead single off one of Al’s albums.
Jurassic Park is conventionally funny. MacArthur Park is bonkers mcgibberish.
I’d be happy with a lot of them, but 80’s era Scrabble is easily top of list. The clue writing on that show was fantastic, and the Sprint round remains one of the most exciting endgames I’ve seen.
I love current Craig Ferguson Scrabble, but I’d take a revival of the old format in a heartbeat.
I love how that was part of the strategy, and they did a good job writing to it. The risk/reward of getting in before you had all the info was definitely part of the fun.

24.02.2026 03:18 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I listened to two different versions by Grace Jones yesterday, this one is a bit more driving, the other is like a few bpm slower but mostly less synth-driven.
