I think this is absolutely correct (if frustrating and unfair) to change individual's minds, and it is similar to getting people to "unfall" for any scam; however, I am less sure that this strategy works to keep people from falling for this shit in the first place.

Israel simply does not have the power to force the US government to do something it does not want to do. What Rubio is doing here, by claiming Israel forced the US hand, is making Israel the scapegoat for a US policy he knows is unpopular. This framing is going to be so bad for Diaspora Jews.

It doesn’t help that, “Israel made us do it,” is one of the many pieces of spaghetti that the administration has thrown at the wall, but yeah — I really don’t like this either.

So, so instructive to compare media response to Afghanistan withdrawal -- months of hysterical garment-rending & catastrophizing, relentless criticism of the admin -- with the response to an unprovoked, unmotivated, illegal war of aggression, ie, "some critics say maybe Trump should have reasons."
