What birds can teach us about the โbiological truthโ of sex
Part of our job as educators is to give students a deeper understanding of the true diversity of sex and gender in the natural world.
I believe that it is important that my students learn about the dynamic, complex process by which sexual differentiation occurs because it is the truth, writes @nmbaran.bsky.social.

A New Vision for Women's Health Research
Please take two minutes to watch this excellent video that explains WHY SEX DIFFERENCES are critical to study...
This is why PINK Concussions has spent the last 12 years advocating for women to be included in Brain Injury research and why we will not give up advocating!

Exclusive: NIH appears to archive policy requiring female animals in studies
Such a shift would โput us back in the dark ages in terms of our science,โ says neuroscientist Anne Murphy, who helped to formulate the original policy.
If this is the case, it would be heartbreakingโerasing progress and widening the gender data gap yet again. It would mark a huge step backward for science and women's health. #GenderDataGap #HealthResearch #HealthEquity #NIH

Among nearly 35,000 biological scientists who authored their first paper in 2000, women were more likely than men to have stopped publishing after 5, 10 or 20 years. The size of this gender gap varies between disciplines.
Disappointing new study showing - once again - that women are leaving research careers at far higher levels than men

ChP volume at 2 weeks and 6 months in the left and right ChP from TRACK-TBI in mild TBI CT+, mild TBI CTโ, and orthopedic controls. Box plots demonstrating post hoc comparisons with higher ChP volume in the right and left hemisphere at 2 weeks in CT+ compared with CTโ and orthopedic controls. This relationship exists at 6 months for the left and right hemisphere for CT+ compared with CTโ but only for the right hemisphere when comparing CT+ to orthopedic controls. ChP, choroid plexus; CT, computed tomography; TBI, traumatic brain injury; TRACK-TBI, Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury.
ChP from GMM in blue; ChP from original FreeSurfer mask in yellow. ChP, choroid plexus; GMM, Gaussian mixture modeling.
The choroid plexus (ChP), a small subcortical structure, is a neuroprotective barrier. Preclinical TBI models show increased inflammatory markers in the ChP. Our recent work shows ChP swelling in CT+ TBI patients, emphasizing the different pathologies of TBI. www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/...
