This tiny beast terrorized my yard this morning. He caught a chipmunk, and was being chased by a pair of squawking red-bellied woodpeckers who dive-bombed him. Every chipmunk in the vicinity was up a tree and chirping a warning.

I hope people can view Talarico's faith more as a force for good, not as some clever way to "stick it" to Republicans. That's not what he's about at all and interpreting his speeches as clever "gotchas" doesn't help his platform; they are genuine appeals to the good in others which people can sense.

Important to remember that a lot of the current political era came from the Moral Majority, which was a major push to usurp political power with a different, aggressive, racist form of US Christianity…in direct response to Jimmy Carter's political Christianity which was everything they didn't want.

This isn't like a "hashtag not all christian" kind of defense, just more like a plea to stop feeding into the Christian Nationalist narrative that all Christians are like them: that's what they want because they worship the Crusades (or at least, their fantasies of the Crusades).

So I truly hope people, especially on bluesky, can stop looking at his christianity as a major negative or some kind of political play. Some of the most aggressively progressive & socially active members of the community here are progressive christians and they are some of the kindest people I know.

In Talarico's case, he was one of the loudest voices against requiring the Ten Commandments in schools here, and his motivation was not just from the first amendment, but also from his Christian faith because he considers state religious freedom to be an important aspect of "loving thy neighbor."

But these kinds of Christians take the "What Would Jesus Do" thing very seriously, and their political & social action is driven by their Lord's teachings more than religious dogma or church tradition. A lot of them feel that their faith is at the "Jesus flipping tables at the temple" stage now.

Talarico has been in legislature here for almost a decade but he has come to the forefront lately because he—and many of the Christian Left/progressive Christianity folks—have become a lot more publicly outspoken about christian nationalism & the aggressive political weaponization of Christianity

1) SO happy to see Talarico's older speeches coming up in political conversations outside of Texas bc he's done so much good work in the tx legislature that I'm kinda upset we might lose him to the us congress lol

2) it's become apparent that the internet doesn't know much of Progressive Christians

I think a lot about that BLeeM quote of his professor about "personality predates ideology" and I think I would have argued against this years ago as flawed and reductive. Now, as someone beat down and tired, it just feels true...but I still prefer not to believe it even if it feels true

I'm not so sure these groups will want to set these precedents because the right wing equivalent of these materials are much more widely distributed and owned and also actively spoken about in the far right spaces. (Naturlich this includes T*rner Diaries and H*nter but there are so many others)

There was a cheeky tiktok (set to the catchy "they! want! you!" refrain of In The Navy by the Village People) arguing that the internet manosphere phenomenon, including "male loneliness epidemic", was entirely set up to prime & isolate young men to be obedient, expendable soldiers… I can believe it.

Just translated poorly; he wrote سيادة الرئيس which is similar to saying "Mr President" respectfully, but grok translated it more like سَعادة which is kinda similar but slightly different and that would be like saying Your Excellency haha. He wrote it the way you'd write for addressing many titles.
