Not sure if I would have ever been good at it though, as "but it looks cooler so I like this more" is baked into my art-process just as much as "how can I make this as accurately as possible without sacrificing how cool it looks", which probably explains the post-high school pivot to monster art...

Did you know. That the meme-explosion that was the wooden model of Sacabambaspis (an Ordovician jawless fish) held at a Museum in Helsinki, was created by a pioneering Estonian fish paleontologist and palaeoartist, Elga Mark-Kurik. 🧵

Digital painting of two fuzzy, dark brown American Mastodon eating pumpkins in a small pumpkin patch. The style emulated watercolor and pencil paintings. In the foreground the larger mastodon is leaning over to crush a very large orange pumkin with its weight, while the mastodon behind it snacks on pumpkin chunks. The forest around them is mixed with tall conifers and deciduous trees in various shades of fall reds, oranges and yellows

Disney CFO On YouTube TV Carriage Fight: “We’re Ready To Go As Long As They Want To” – Update Disney's CFO told CNBC this morning that the company had steeled itself for a possible carriage fight with YouTube and "we're ready to go as long as they want to."

This story about Disney and YouTube being locked in negotiations over their content carriage deal is the reason I had very mixed feelings about Google acquiring YouTube in the first place.

Have you ever seen anything more intertwined with Hollywood?

In hindsight, the core theme of the sequel trilogy should have been that unchecked nostalgia for the past makes it easier for evil to return.

Learning science is just incredible tbh; that article is slightly frustrating but the science within it is so damn cool.

Which....tbh probably explains why I'd always felt way ahead of the reading classes (which were already an "enriched" level) even in elementary school. I still specifically remember being aghast that we were reading Narnia in our grade when that was(to me) "a babys book" by then LOL little ahhole

That part stuck out to me because I also had this experience before attending school...I didn't realize it was significant because of the teaching style; i thought he meant in terms of learning earlier.

This article makes me that realize my kindergarten+ reading lessons must have been supplemental.

A while back there was an article on a different learning science topic (memory recall i think); one of the researchers mentioned his advantage in reading came from his immigrant mother also learning English words by sounding them out while reading to him; i had no idea it was referencing this issue

Headline writers nowadays are more about SEO than journalistic integrity, so they absolutely shouldn't be able to get away with dumping their shit on an actual journalist.

I always feel bad for the journalists & writers of well-written articles when they get the absolute most shit headline written for their article, like the headline writer is setting the writer up for an online mob of people who don't read their articles.

IMO headline writers should be credited

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
