Maricopa County recorder files suit against Board of Supervisors
Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap has filed a lawsuit against the county’s Board of Supervisors, escalating a monthslong fight over control of Maricopa County’s elections.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors agreed to give Recorder Justin Heap control of in person early voting and his own IT staff to resolve an ongoing lawsuit over election responsibilities, but they say Heap's atty won't respond to the offer.

Mayes considers 'nuisance' lawsuit to stop Arizona ICE detention facility
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is considering using the state’s “public nuisance” law to stop ICE from opening a massive detention facility in Surprise.
AZ AG Mayes considers using Arizona nuisance law to block ICE facility. Since taking office , Mayes' has taken an expansive view of the law, which allows AG to sue to block threats to public health or "enjoyment of life or property” by the community.

A Maricopa County judge rejected County Atty Rachel Mitchell’s argument that only she can appoint an atty to represent the County Recorder. Mitchell had sought to disqualify the firm representing Recorder Justin Heap in his ongoing litigation with the Board of Supervisors.

The Phoenix City Council voted 7-2 not to move forward with a light rail extension to the state Capitol that would connect to I-10 to move into west Phoenix. Instead, they opted to accelerate a separate route west along Indian School that's earlier on in the planning stages.
