Best thing IMHO, and from what I understand, pretty accurate depiction, in the Bruce Willis imminent meteorite impact movie Armageddon is the oil well blow out with the drill pipe shooting high up out of the hole in the very beginning of the movie.

I like “San Francisco” the 1936 Clark Gable/Spencer Tracy movie set in 1906. The earthquake itself is at the end, but the special effects are quite good.

My 6th grade teacher in 1962 read us parts of Fail Safe, the novel, & we had radio on in classroom to hear if Russian ships turned around during Cuban missile crisis. Seems totally inappropriate for 6th graders now. Took me until college to give up fear of nuclear annihilation, I could not control.

I too see fenestrate bryozoans (look like waffle fries), crinoid stem disks. Fossil hash. I am guessing Mississippian age like the quarries in Indiana but these are coarser-grained. Fine-grained example on @empirestatebldng.bsky.social .

That is a very important point about clean beaters & bowl for whipping egg whites. You cannot use a plastic bowl (reason for my first meringue fail). You have to use metal for everything. That is because plastic will retain microscopic oil, from previous recipes, which impedes whipping egg whites.
