I think No. 1 through 4 are objective truths. The parts of Stanley that are not replaceable are size/vibes, but those things don't override results.

I like Stanley and he can be fun to watch, too. I just don't think WPG can pay him what the market can (while forgoing his trade return) as a 3LD.

I don't know that I love Trotz's resume as a GM, despite his track record as a brilliant head coach.

Could and should might be different. It doesn't appear to be a seller's market at the moment, and that's all WPG can do.

Meanwhile, some folks are saying they "should" swing big for quality young scorers like Robert Thomas or Jordan Kyrou.

But players like Thomas and Kyrou have full NTCs.

*for his size. Clearly his tight turns are not tight turns and he gets beat in situations that require quickness/agility.

I think this could be a life-changing contract for Stanley. He's always had the size and mobility* to intrigue people. Now he's scoring (unsustainably) and playing with confidence despite d-zone issues.

-Someone- will pay for that on a scale that dwarfs his ~$5.5 million career earnings to date.

LeBrun: Why the NHL trade deadline carries extra intrigue this year

"There isn’t a lot of supply, and there is little demand for what is being made available."

Winnipeg Jets 2026 trade deadline decisions: Who stays and who goes? Let's sort through Winnipeg's roster from top to bottom, dividing them into tiers based on my read of the Jets' point of view.

Will Winnipeg sell as aggressively as they "should"?

Or will the #NHLJets cling to the idea of a miracle run?

Here's who I think stays and who goes at the trade deadline this Friday ‡️

Oof. I liked his game a lot a few years back and it wasn't the one offensive surge that did it. Still thought there was value there heading into this season.

Win or lose, it's difficult to watch this #NHLJets team and buy into the idea of a miracle run.

Too far back, too many injuries, too big a lack of quality.

I keep thinking that a Toews auction -- if ever there were a Toews auction -- would escalate, based on Cups and vibes. But I don't expect that to happen. If I'm wrong on that guess, we're unlikely to get definitive proof.

They might, yeah. Nino's injury hurts him now, but both players benefit from reputations as hard-working glue guys. It would make sense for teams to want them...

...But I expect WPG to keep them with an eye on next season.

I'd be surprised if they go (but could certainly be wrong.)

I think Winnipeg would love to sign Stanley at term. For the reasons I wrote in the piece, there's a chance he's priced himself out of his 3LD role.

If they like Stanley but not at the cap hit he'll command, they should move him.

28.02.2026 18:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I wanted to address Perfetti, whose name has come up in rumours. Winnipeg isn't shopping him.

Teams ask, though. If Winnipeg wants anything of value from elsewhere, what other mid-20's player with promise exists?

I stopped short of players under contract with the belief WPG holds them all.

How Jets can use the trade deadline and beyond to get value from a lost season Making the playoffs is exceptionally unlikely at this point. The Jets need to optimize their approach for the future.

Jonathan Toews weighs in on NHL trade deadline: β€˜I wouldn’t consider going anywhere’ The 37-year-old centre wants to stay with his hometown team, despite Winnipeg sitting 11 points outside the Western Conference playoffs.

As the trade deadline and unrestricted free agency approach, Jonathan Toews tells @wpgmurat.bsky.social he's not looking to leave Winnipeg:

Kyle Connor on the President's joke about inviting the women.

"I don't really have any thoughts on that. There's so many things happening. We just won the gold medal and things are going on so I don't really remember what he said. It's such a whirlwind, just celebrating with your teammates."

Thank you. It's good to be back. I think Toews as a 3 or 4C would have had value to a contender, but it was good to get his point of view and his unequivocal "I wouldn't consider going anywhere."

Winnipeg's TDL pivot will have to come in a different form.

It sounds like Team USA, including Connor Hellebuyck and Kyle Connor, will be at the White House for an event tomorrow night.

Hellebuyck won't play Wednesday. Comrie will start, DiVincentiis will back him up.

Seems like KC could play, but the coast-to-coast-to-coast travel could impact that.
