MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alberto Castañeda Mondragón says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance. But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain. He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friend’s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again. He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.
ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”
What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

COMMENT The carcinoma in the ileum and mesenteric lymph node is most likely representative of an infiltrative intestinal adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinomas of both the small and large intestine typically display infiltrative growth and incite a marked desmoplastic response, resulting in intestinal stenosis. These tumors have a very high rate of metastasis, and rapidly extend to the serosal surface and into lymphatics. As such, there is a very high rate of concurrent nodal or serosal involvement at the time of surgical excision. These tumors often metastasize to other viscera and may spread across the abdominal cavity producing serosal netastases, lymphatic obstruction, and ascites (carcinomatosis. While intestinal resection of ofte alliative for the short term, given the nodal involvementin this case, the likelihood of further spread is high and the prognosis is poor. There is an prominent enteritis occurring in the jejunum, which has a neutrophilic component, most suggestive of a bacterial component or mucosal barrier disruption from passing foreign body, etc. No overt evidence of lymphoma is identified in the duodenum or jejunum.
