I’ve known many Latinos who came legally and some illegally. I never knew one who wouldn’t have preferred to live where they grew up. They left the narcos, corruption, and poverty in their birthplaces. Some came for grad school. People who migrate, however they do so, do it at a cost.

The $ amount was reduced some time ago from 200 to 180. I think. To do that again now is just awful. When I began my professorate in 2003, the married assistant profs (making the same $$ I assume) were eligible for and received SNAP. Catholic university. They’re notoriously cheap.
