I don't think I'm overestimating at all. I have spent a lot of time dealing with victims and their enablers.

I'd argue people underestimate how much abusers know what they're doing is wrong.

Once I accidentally outed myself as a lesbian at my incredibly homophobic workplace and then I was treated as if I was super disgusting by all the women. I really disliked them so I didn’t mind but it compromised my safety a lot. Cis women can be the absolute worst in their transphobia/lesbophobia.
