It can go both ways. You can end up ranking higher than you would have. Of course it is more fun to push forward but if you graduate with the ability to handle adversity more gracefully, that's a silver lining.

I am not sure about that. There must be a very high development cost for the game every year. Then you have to fabricate all of the elements, staff the events, logistics, live data, HQ support, and overhead. The parts are inexpensive for what they are.

And robots. To make it work you would need to invest in science... Oh wait... I think they forgot that step. What?.. They are tearing science down... Yeah, we're screwed.

In a situation like "High schoolers save family from building fire caused by faulty product." I think we can address the faulty product and commend the act of the high schoolers at the same time.
