Like, this isn't a moral failure of the author or anything (usually) but I feel like there's a missed opportunity to explore some emotional conflict.

Almost every story I've encountered about a full-immersion VRMMO has it so players cannot choose or change their character's appearance and nobody ever seems to acknowledge how fucked up that is, especially if appearance is linked to real life.

I doubt they'll bother adding that last bit because that just isn't the kind of game they wanted to make. That's okay! Maybe some day modders can add it in.

I just want that tension, that constant resource scrounging, but ALSO the brawling combat and zippy parkour.

This game comes very close to the zombie game I always wanted.

-Melee-focused but it has firearms
-Weapon and gear customization
-Individual zombies are always a threat if you're foolish

The only thing it's missing is... I guess just a survival mode? Eating/drinking/sleep, etc. And more interiors.

Like, Dying Light 2 was VERY GOOD in my opinion, but the improvements seen in The Beast are just too good to pass up. Not to mention the map feels like it has more... juice, I guess?

I'm more compelled by the story, too. I hope it sells well so they feel confident in adding more and more!

So Dying Light: The Beast feels like the best iteration of the Dying Light games yet! Not terribly surprising considering it's their third, but it's nice to see that they've really distilled the qualities of the series into its best form.

It's not as big of a game as 2 though, so I'll miss that...
